So apparently Cigar Guy has been hanging out outside of The Today Show studio at Rockefeller Center since Saturday, and early this morning he was noticed by Matt Lauer & Co. and interviewed in the plaza. That’s persistence. Sayeth Cigar Guy:
“Obviously, it’s hilarious; it’s fantastic, it’s fantastic, when you see all the pictures and the effort people have gone to …” said the Cigar Guy, who is really a 30-year-old London software analyst named Rupesh Shingadia. “At the same time, you can’t help being slightly embarrassed by it,” he told the TODAY crew while smiling.
Best part: He stayed in costume the entire time, and shook hands with Al Roker. Then, he was invited inside for a few “bits” (pictured).
