Drunken spectators rush bullfighting ring, bulls win decisively

We tend to think of bullfighting as arena events, with walls between the beasts and the spectators and very little chance of the general public being gored. But in Colombia, it’s an entirely different deal. Apparently the public is encouraged to join in; with all manner of idiots running around and taunting the animals. Got a bedsheet? Get in there and yell toro! One such event turned tragic recently in the town of Sabanalarga when several drunken fans rushed the arena, resulting in three people dead and more than 30 injured.

When drunken jerks rush a bullfighting arena, is it wrong to root for the four-legged mammal? Should I not wish that EA Sports would make a bullfighting video game from the bull’s point of view?

    Why can’t the author differentiate between a regular bullfight and this event, which consist of jumping into the ring and run in front of the bull? There is no intention of killing the animal, only some form of extreme sport for some poor people in Colombia.
    Would you like to wish death to everyone in a car race, or if we are talking about animals, to every cowboy riding a bull?
    Jeez.
    And again, the bull is not killed in these events.

    The families of the dead an injured will carry the pain and deal with the drama of the stupid participants.
    Why not just give them a gun and let them play Russian rolette? Or let them frolic in a mine field and take their chances? Same thing. Don’t try to pretty it up or smart it up. In one video, a bull has 2 or 3 swords embedded. He’s hurt and bleeding and you’ve got idiots taunting them. How idiotic this is and the government even more so, as they condone it. When will this horrific, brutal sport (??) be banned across the globe? My aren’t we strong and brave! Bah.

    DIEGO – clearly one of the bulls above has swords embedded in it. I have to believe they are real.Real wounds, real blood,real pain. And even if they don’t kill the bulls…why would it still be okay to terrorize them? One was on the ground and I couldn’t count how many people fell upon it, doing god knows what with the sticks they held.
    This is STILL okay in your view? “aw, we’re just gonna chase it and scare it until it drops from exhaustion”.
    Get a clue!
