Tuesday Blogdome: The greatest goal that never was

Sep 28, 2010, 5:40 PM EDT

* Incredible Goal Called Back. From 101 Great Goals here’s — and you don’t get to say this much these days — a slice of brilliance from the Dutch Eredivisie. In the clip we see Belgian midfielder Ken “Gary” Leemans of the awesomely-named VVV Venlo strike the ball into the top corner from an absolutely sick distance in a match against De Graafschap. However, immediately before he launches the ball a De Graafschap player commits a foul against one of Leemans’ teammates, and for some reason, instead of letting play go on as Leemans begins to tee up his shot, the referee whistles play dead so he can hand out a yellow card and the goal gets disallowed. Boo-urns! [The Score]
* Old, Creepy ASU Fan Getting Jiggy With Some Coeds. Whilst tailgating at the Arizona State/Oregon game this past weekend, our elderly creeper, half-drunk on PBR’s, becomes the center of attention with his sweet dance moves and inappropriate rubbing of some ASU coeds. [The Last Angry Fan]

* Jim Harbaugh Has Brought Stanford Back to Relevancy. On two-way starter Owen Marecic: “He starts both ways at the two toughest positions in the game of football, at fullback and middle linebacker. Imagine the physical toll that takes and it’s uncharted waters for him. He played over 90 plays in the ballgame against Notre Dame, but also the mental aspect of just being able to do it; learn two schemes and go out and execute both of those schemes is really remarkable. He’s a Pre-Med student, got about a 3.87 GPA and he is just unlike any other player I’ve ever been around in 30 years of the game of football.” [Sports Radio Interviews]
* Style Points Are Ruining America. Post-2003, when the AP poll put USC as their national champion, the BCS formula was tweaked to include a stronger “strength of schedule” rating in the computer polls, and the human polls were given twice as much strength in order to avoid a similar USC/LSU issue in the future. That change is what is screwing Boise State and TCU today. [Rumors & Rants]
* ‘Rudy’ Making Movie About Wayne Newton Shrine. Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review-Journal has some delightful news about Rudy Ruettiger, the walk-on Notre Dame football player who inspired the feature film, “Rudy”.[SportsbyBrooks]
* Eagles 28, Jaguars 3: Boom. Michael Vick is heartless, dog-drowning sociopath … if by “heartless, dog-drowning sociopath” you mean the GREATEST QUARTERBACK IN THE WORLD. Eagles 28, Jaguars 3: Boom. [TheWizWit]
* ‘Rudy’ Making Movie About Wayne Newton Shrine. “Ruettiger has been involved in shooting a documentary of the transformation of (Wayne) Newton’s Casa de Shenandoah ranch into a Graceland-style tourist attraction.” [SportsbyBrooks]
