HS football coach drops pants, moons opposing fans (with update)

When they say that an argument between coaches and officials has gotten ugly, they usually don’t mean this. I’m not sure which of the gentlemen here wearing the red shirts is the one who did it, but an assistant coach for the Boys and Girls High School football team “bared his backside” to fans of the home team, Campus Magnet, during a wild melee following a controversial call on Saturday in Queens.

“His fellow coaches were holding him back and he turned around and pulled down his shorts,” said David Sumter, 40, a Campus Magnet parent. “All I saw was his big \[rear end\].”

It happened in the closing minutes of the teams’ Championship Division game in Cambria Heights, after Campus Magnet had scored a touchdown to go up 14-6. But on the 2-point conversion attempt, running back Raeshawn Lewis apparently fumbled. The refs convened, however, and ruled that Lewis had broken the plane of the goal line before losing the ball.

The Boys and Girls coaches went ballistic, charging onto the field to argue the call. The coaches, clad in red T-shirts and shorts, hurled obscenities at the refs, witnesses said.

After a few minutes, five school safety officers rushed the field and pulled out their handcuffs, further stoking the Boys and Girls coaches’ rage.

“It didn’t look like much at first, but then they just kept on going,” said a 16-year-old student. “They were cursing and yelling.”

The refs ejected Boys and Girls head coach Barry O’Connor and his assistant, Clive Harding, and called the game with 3:49 left in the fourth quarter to give Campus Magnet a 16-6 victory.

The school district is trying to get the identity of the mooner, so they can fire him. Either that, or so the San Francisco 49ers can hire him as an assistant.
UPDATE: The mooning coach identified as Williams Miller, has been fired, said a New York City Department of Education spokesperson.
