It’s not often that you see a play in football where all 11 defenders have a direct shot at tackling the runner; plus, having the runner completely surrounded by seven of them. But that’s what happened last Friday to Genoa-Kingston (Ill.) High School quarterback Craig Billington, who somehow escaped the entire Burlington Central team, including two anemic tackle attempts at the goal line, to score the winning touchdown.
Even more rare: Hearing one of the defensive players admit, as he did to the Chicago Sun-Times: “We all gave up on that play. He just wanted it more.”
Bonus feature: The winning team’s nickname is the Cogs.
