Here’s the photo that’s been dancing all through the Internets today … Nationals Stadium on Wednesday, 10 minutes before the start of the game. Our friend at Gheorghe: The Blog was one of the brave souls at that game vs. the Astros, and claims that at the time this picture was taken, there were 169 people in the stands. Looks like less.
Attendance ended up at 12,213, if you can believe the Nationals’ official tally (no fair counting pigeons!). That’s not so terribly disgraceful. But it’s a long, long way from the heady days of June, when Stephen Strasburg was Google trending and Nationals tickets were printed in gold.
Now, the stadium is so empty that Screech, the Nationals mascot, spent an entire half-inning sitting with the same fan. Sad, really.

And, for some reason, having Bryce Harper announce he’s nothing but a bandwagon fan (something DC residents have enough of with all the Yankees, Cowboys, etc. fans), enthusiasm for even next year is basically nonexistent.

It’s even more painful when you realize the mascot will not talk to you. The entire half inning. At all. Trust me, I tried all sorts of schtick.
