See that guy on the far left dressed as one of Joe Pesci’s crew in Casino? That’s Roger Craig, multiple-day Jeopardy! game show champ and holder of the show’s single-day record for money earnings at $77,000. But on Tuesday he was no match for the juggernaut that was Out of Bounds columnist Jelisa Castrodale (far right), who came from behind in inspiring Drew Brees fashion to end Craig’s six-day reign of terror. Jelisa put her humble Wake Forest degree to good use in her debut episode, but still found herself trailing Craig by $2,300 going into Final Jeopardy.
The Final Jeopardy category? “Sports and Media” … which hardly seemed fair. After all, Jelisa writes for Out of Bounds, so was at a distinct disadvantage. What would she know about sports and media?
Plus, the answer was so easy no self-respecting male could have gotten it wrong: The headline for this city’s newspaper on Feb. 8, 2010 read “Finally The Wait Is Over After 43 years.” Craig answered: Chicago. Anonymous guy in middle: Miami (?!). Only Jelisa got it right: New Orleans. Craig and Jelisa both bet big, and Jelisa wins going away.
And the Deacon Sports message board goes wild!
We’re not allowed to say what happens tonight (the shows are taped way in advance, and Trebek has the power to have you arrested and beaten if you tell). So tune in and see if Jelisa makes it to Thursday.
