LaVar Arrington has a few words of encouragment for Brett Favre (he rips him limb from limb)

Sep 21, 2010, 2:00 PM EDT

Be honest, we’ve all thought it; even you Vikings fans now that you’re 0-2. When you’re 40, the only chance you have to compete in the NFL is to work out every day of the off-season, and get to training camp three weeks early. Former pro Bowler LaVar Arrington agrees, and said so on his weekly Washington Post sports column today:

“Quite frankly, there is no substitute for hard work and preparation. It’s ridiculous to think that one could just throw a few passes to high school kids and do Wrangler commercials, then walk onto an NFL field and win. The competition level is too high for an aging man to continue to think that he could get away with his casual approach to the game.”

Oh my. Add one more sack to Favre’s career total, I guess.

And after an 0-2 start, I’m wondering whether the Vikings still think it was wise for them to beg Favre not to retire? Was it worthwhile to offer him more money and send their best players and coaches to visit him during training camp to plead with him to play? Please.

This could turn out to be the worst off-season decision of the year. Honestly, what do you believe these Viking players are thinking? I’ll tell you. They are wondering the same thing they wondered last year: How the heck does an NFL franchise allow so much indecision? How does an NFL franchise allow a single player to dictate what happens and what doesn’t? And here’s the most detrimental thought of all: Teammates now say to themselves, ‘if he can get away with it, then why shouldn’t I be able to do the same’?

So our official Out of Bounds Reverse NFL Power Rankings this week read like this:
1. Brett Favre.
2. Braylon Edwards.
3. Football gods (for the MNF 49ers loss. I mean, seriously … the kick gets blocked through the uprights?).
4. Colts Helmet Guy.
5. Brandon Jacobs.

This coming from Lavar Arrington? What exactly did he do in his career?
Where were these comments when Favre led the Vikings to the NFC title game? People like Arrington have no merit in what they say if the only time they’re going to critisize someone is when they’re not doing well. Just shows what a pathetic perosn Arrington is. Hey Lavar, try playing 15 years without ever missing a start. Oh wait, you can’t say that.

He’s got more merit than you. And until the facts prove otherwise, he’s right.

  4. Lynn - Sep 21, 2010 at 6:05 PM

Favre is not the problem, one man does not make the team, he has no protection, and his recievers can’t hold on to the football. He still throws a beautiful pass. Just because he is 40, that is just experience that a lot of players don’t have, he needs some one to be able to catch and buy the way, brees is good but the team plays dirty.

He’s exactly right., of course the good old boy tea party attitude is pervasive in the perception of who is doing quote unquote the “right thing”. I wonder could a liberal black or person of color be allowed to not participate in team activities and then be hosted as the talk of the town. oops I must be a racist. sorry, but what happen to the mantra that no one is bigger then the team. the hypocrisy is laughable!

racist…lol…always leads to that huh,how about barry bonds and all his drama?

Lavar(a probowler) has every right to say what he said, and he’s right!!! I’m a Vikings fan and was very excited for this season and now I feel a little cheated, but there are more problems then Favre. Receiving core is decimated by injuries, Vikings need to be a run first offense and Favre needs to except that…Peterson needs to be “the man” and carry this team, not Favre. Childress is an average coach and it shows. I think there is enough talent on the team to over come the injuries…Childress needs to be booted

Has anyone else ever whined as long as Viking fans. I guess the Dolphins must play dirty also. Reality is Vikings 0-2 this season and 0-3 their last 3 games. Have fun watching the old man get clobbered this year.

Look at his passer rating and interceptions the last six years. He has had one great season last year, and a good half season. The restof the time he was in the bottom of interceptions and passer rating.
No we can’t take away his terrific year last year, which ended in Farve fashion, throwing a pic while scrambling. But we also can’t put his horrible play completely on his team and his receivers.
He has jerked around several teams with his act. When still a Packer he wouldn’t tutor Aaron Rodgers. Bupre Fatre care about Burpe Fatre.

  11. GUNS - Sep 21, 2010 at 8:26 PM

Ok. Enough of bashing Favre. Irregardless of what he has shown so far this year, he’s still the greatest QB ever. Without him, the Vikings would have never been where they went last year. So he threw a pick last January. If it would have happened 5 minutes earlier, and they still lost, that would have been a non-issue.
The whole problem lies with Ziggy and Chilly! To go throw another $7M to bring him back was laughable! That $7M would have made a lot of the Vike players happier = who knows. This season is far from over, but being a Packer fan, I hope the trend continues. Favre is no dummy. He certainly isn’t like so many pros who sign those idiotic contracts, and wouldn’t you know, they get hurt. A little ailment sidelines them for games or maybe the season. Favre gets all banged up and still stands tall. He’s taken many hard licks but he’s by far the stone. T.J. and the backups would probably have been on the injured list by now. Brett, take all you can get from this pathetic and over-rated purple, horned belly- achers. You don’t have to prove a thing. You are still better than 90% of some of these airhead QBs. But please do me some more favors, throw lots more interceptions.. and A.P. you are disappointing me. I expect a minimum of 12 fumbles! Let’s go Pack!!

  12. Mariann Pepitone - Sep 21, 2010 at 10:22 PM

Favre is not the problem. The offense and defense are the problem. They need to get a grip like last year. And the Vikings only lost by four which is not a big score. I believe the Vikings will win the next several games and go on further. Two losses is not a lot. They can still survive. I am not going to put Favre down for losing. I am a fan for Favre’s and will stick with him win or lose. It is not that easy being a quarterback. The quarterback should not always take the blame for the loss.

  13. journsey - Sep 21, 2010 at 10:42 PM

No, but if he loses some dogs in the pool, or forgets to un-leash the dogs before he hangs the leash up on the wall, we will let him play quarterback again after he finishes serving his time.

  14. poundacleas - Sep 22, 2010 at 1:20 AM

yes its not all favre fault, but his arrogance of not showwing up until the last minute is showing. he does have recievers and if he is as great as avery one says then the recievers he has should do! also i agree about using AP more. he is a great back, but i do believe they also miss taylor in the backfield!it does not matter to me either way, but i think its only going to get worse for the vikings this year.

  15. terry - Sep 22, 2010 at 7:25 AM

Regardless of what people think of the messenger in this case, he is right – if you’re 40 years old and don’t work out during the off-season and you play your annual no-decision waltz for what seems like the 20th time even though everyone knows what you are doing and the team officials absolutely kowtow to you to and beyond the point of absurdity – sooner or later it is going to blow up in your face, and that time is now.
It was inevitable, and he has no one to blame but himself.

  16. Smokehouse - Sep 22, 2010 at 7:55 AM

Who cares what this has been, never was says in the first place. These reporters need to have credible people make these harsh comments not these nobodys.

  17. mike3775 - Sep 22, 2010 at 11:14 AM

Sure they wouldn’t have been anywhere last year, but their backups might have had a years worth of progress, when now the back ups have sat for 2 yrs now.
What are they going to do next year? The current QB’s they have, the team has no faith in them at all, as has been shown, so the “win now” mentality has BACKFIRED big time and has set the team back at least 2 years now

  18. mike3775 - Sep 22, 2010 at 11:17 AM

SO it wasn’t his fault he fumbled the ball in the Endzone? If he had taken a safety instead of fumbling, the score would have been different. And sorry, but unlike what CBS announcers claim, that fluky INT he tossed(where it was bounced around) was on Favre, the pass was BEHIND the receiver, so how can it be his fault if the ball was tossed BEHIND him? Oh yeah, thats right, Favre does no wrong to NFL announcers

  19. ThatGuy - Sep 22, 2010 at 1:19 PM

“It’s ridiculous to think that one could just throw a few passes to high school kids and do Wrangler commercials, then walk onto an NFL field and win.”
He has already been proven wrong, farve did it last year.

  20. ocgunslinger - Sep 22, 2010 at 5:31 PM

The man has played almost 20 YEARS in the NFL and has missed how many games? Oh right he currently holds the all time record of consecutive starts. Of course he has just been lucky because anyone can do what he does right? Did you see the pictures of his ankle and leg after the end of the year? It is a wonder he is able to walk and his rehab time must have taken most of the off season. Brett has NOTHING to prove to anyone other than himself which is why he returns….FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME.
