In which Brandon Jacobs literally flips his lid

So by now you know that the Giants’ Brandon Jacobs tossed his helmet into the stands in a fit of frustration Sunday night; an act he said was a mistake (he meant to toss it at the bench. Nice). Anyway, it became a temporary souvenir for this fan. Depending on which story you believe, the helmet was then torn from his hands by Colts security thugs (Cris Collinsworth’s version), or he gave it up willingly after being bribed with a football. The Colts blog Stampede Blue was not amused:

But equally as ugly as Jacobs’ violent tirade was Lucas Oil Stadium security trying to get the helmet back. Mark my words, had Jacobs done that in Philly, or Foxboro, or Cleveland, security would have needed tear gas and tasers to get that helmet back from fans. What goes into the stands belongs to the fans, and the image of Lucas Oil security bullying fans into giving back the helmet was almost as disgusting as Jacobs tossing it into the stands in the first place.

Jacobs:

“I was a little mad, but to be honest with you, it was a mistake. I did not mean to do that and everybody who knows me knows I did not mean to do something like that. The whole world could fall down on me and I wouldn’t have done anything like that.”

“We were losing the game and I was mad. No one wants to lose, and I kind of lost my cool.”

But then …

Jacobs, who was flagged for a personal-foul penalty after a late hit earlier in the game, got into a heated, profanity-laced discussion with a reporter after the game when asked if he was pulled by Coughlin because of the helmet toss. He then apologized to the reporter and explained why he was upset at the line of questioning.

Busy night for that young man.
And no, I wouldn’t have given up that helmet unless threatened by uniformed cops; I’d drop and cover it like a game-ending fumble recovery. Souvenir of the decade.
So which team’s helmet will be the next for Jacobs to toss into the stands?

jacobs is just another big baby. if anything flies up into the stands (a home run hit, or a football is thrown into the stands)it now belongs to whom ever catches it. jacobs had a tantrum and tossed his helmet into the stands. the guy should of been able to keep it. it realy makes the giants look bad and i am glade they lost.

If the fan had really wanted that helmet, he should have evacuated the stadium as soon as it came into his possession.

Agreed. Run like the wind and don’t look back. Stow in trunk and innocently reenter stadium.
