Rodney King challenges Mike Tyson to a boxing match

Sep 17, 2010, 2:00 PM EDT

As you can see, I went with the “Random Foolishness” tag on this post rather than “Boxing,” because, well, isn’t it obvious. Rodney King, of “can’t we all just get along?” LA cop beatdown fame, has challenged Mike Tyson (of highly-medicated, unhinged fame) to a Celebrity Boxing Federation match. The first thing that struck me funny was that King is proposing the fight be “three one-minute rounds.” How does he expect to fill the last 179 minutes?

From Radar Online:

King: “My trainer, Marty Feldman, has been training me really hard and if it happens, people will be surprised.”

King, the victim of a 1991 beating by Los Angeles police that sparked race riots, is even taunting the undisputed former heavyweight champion to come out of retirement and pull on the gloves for a Celebrity Boxing Federation match.

“Where’s the ‘Iron’?” King said. “I look forward to slapping this steal fist upside his head!

Tyson retired from professional boxing in 2006 after he was knocked out in consecutive matches against Danny Williams and Kevin McBride.

Boxing boss Damon Feldman told RadarOnline.com he was yet to secure Tyson’s agreement for the bout.

Of course he hasn’t; it’s hard to hear anything over all the laughter.
I’ve heard of ploys to back out of a wedding before, but this sounds extreme.

It sounds like les wasn’t born yet or was too young to remember when Tyson was fighting.

Rodney’s been training, huh? I say they should make the rounds 30 seconds each. The first time Mike hits him, he’ll either quit or spend several minutes trying to remember his name. Either way, it won’t take more than 30 seconds. Cmon people, Tyson is/was a PROFESSIONAL FIGHTER. He fought all the best people around for years and MURDERED most of them!!! I love when regular people think they can stand up to a punch from people that know how to throw one. I say let him learn his lesson.

Ok the man took a ass whooping before and he still hasn’t learned. He needs to talk to James “I Got Ckoked Out” Toney and and stay out of fights he knows he can’t win.

Mike will beat him and then eat him.

As a member of the boxing fraternity, I met Mike Tyson when he was 15 years of age at the Junior Olympic Championships. He was a real nice kid to meet and seemed very intelligent. There is no doubt in my mind now that he had a “crack” in his brain which eventually caused his downfall and other ridiculous behavior. Very unfortunate. He could have elevated boxing at the heavyweight division but instead he destroyed it. Boxing at the heavyweight division is dead for now and Tyson, because of his crazy behavior started the downfall. Believe it or not, Tyson is intelligent but is a classic example of the saying…”wisdom is wasted on the old.” I wish him luck in whatever he pursues.

Tysons greatness has long since passed, you people need to get out of the past and into today.
I bet Rodney can easily duke it with today’s Tyson.
