Hey, if you’re a third-party candidate, you have to try harder. That’s why it makes perfect sense for longshot Louisiana Senate hopeful Mike Spears to challenge Republican incumbent David Vitter to a mixed-martial arts cage fight next month in the run-up to the election. Spears is a Louisiana businessman, and is facing Vitter and Democratic challenger Rep. Charlie Melancon in the November election. From Fox News:
“This fight will symbolize the epic battle between the American people and an out-of-control tyrannical federal government and the reckless politicians at the helm,” Spears said.
According to The Daily Advertiser, Spears accused Vitter of having “blood on your hands” at a press conference Wednesday, adding: “I think it’s time you have blood on your face.”
Spears claims to be setting up a legitimate fighting event — though he is not a mixed-martial arts professional and says he’s only starting to train this week. He proposes a three-round match at the Cajundome on Oct. 16, at a “Return of the Champions” fight hosted by USA-MMA.
It would be great for the Democrat if this fight went on as scheduled. Spears and Vitter would be fighting, and then: “Wait … is that Charlie Melancon’s intro music I hear?!”
Yes, I’m mixing pro wrestling and MMA metaphors. Like that would make this story any more weird.

I seem to remember a story about John McCain in one of his first elections, where he went dsfgdsfgtdbtsahatdj during a debate, threatened to kick his opponent’s a$$ and had to be physically restrained. So there’s precedent!
