That man who determines how good you’ve been this year — no, not Santa Claus — is back again with the annual numbers, and things don’t look good for LeBron James. As Calvin said to dad, “Your poll numbers are pretty low among six-year-olds.” And LeBron’s are even lower among everybody. In January, before “The Decision,” when America was a more innocent place, James enjoyed a 24 percent positive rating, according to Henry Schafer, executive vice president of the Q Scores Company (the average athlete has a 15 percent positive Q score rating). What’s LeBron’s score now?
From Darren Rovell’s SportsBiz:
“LeBron’s positive score at that time was the highest we had ever seen it,” Schafer said.
But since “The Decision” show on July 8, things have gone seriously downhill for the NBA star.
“Instead of his change to the Heat being seen as the best way he can win a championship, many have looked at it and how he chose to announce it as a selfish move.”
Schafer says that now only 14 percent of the general population see him as a positive figure, a 41.6 percent drop, while 39 percent view him in a negative light, a 77 percent decline.
In fact, LeBron is now the sixth most disliked sports personality, according to The Q Score Company, behind Michael Vick, Tiger Woods, Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco and Kobe Bryant.
When even the homeless hate you, you’ve got trouble.
Of course he’s doing well in south Florida, where Heat season tickets are sold out and fans are dropping from helicopters to get aboard the bandwagon. Even his cardboard cutout is wildly popular. And none of his sponsors has dropped him. So we wait for the NBA season to start and let the healing begin, I suppose.
