Mayweather's arrest was over an iPhone; police mugshot surfaces
Sep 10, 2010, 4:45 PM EDT
TMZ has obtained Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s police mugshot, as you knew they would, so here you go. Just like in his fifth-grade class picture, he’s wearing a collared shirt and a big smile. Where it starts to differ: the fingerprinting and the posting of bail. Mayweather Jr. was arrested in Las Vegas on a felony theft charge stemming from a domestic violence complaint by his ex-girlfriend. What did he steal? Wait for it … an iPhone.
Breaking into your ex-girlfriend’s house and slapping her around? There’s an app for that.
Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell says the 33-year-old Mayweather was booked Friday at the Clark County jail on a grand larceny charge. He’s being held on $3,000 bail.
More from AP:
Mayweather’s lawyer, Richard Wright, says the charge stems from an allegation that Mayweather took an iPhone from Josie Harris, his ex-girlfriend and mother of three of his children.
Harris made a police complaint and sought a protection order Thursday from a Family Court judge.
Before you say that it was “just an iPhone,” take a look at Mayweather’s watch collection. If he bought the phone for his girlfriend, it might be blinged out and worth more than your house.

I cant believe that any real police department would arrest Floyd Mayweather on such a trumped up charge.

How can you possible say the charge is “Trumped up”. Unless you know more about this than everyone else, which you don’t, then you have just shown your bigotry towards the police. I suppose you think the police planted the cell phone on Him right?

First and foremost, Mayweather, is a first class punk. His actions with the video & now this arrest are a true testament to the kind of person he is out of the ring. I can’t wait for Pacman to kick his sorry ass.

I am sure he wanted the call records, not the phone itself.

“Breaking into your ex-girlfriend’s house and slapping her around? There’s an app for that.”
Why are you making light of domestic violence? I can’t believe this. Does NBC know you’re taking this stand on one of the most common and most destructive crimes currently happening in the U.S.?
I’m appalled and will no longer be a supporter of the National Broadcasting System.

I agree with you, Abe. While the story seems trite and not really worth reporting, the comment about domestic violence just perpetuates a problem that is rampant; the idea that Domestic Violence is something that can be humorous or laughable. As a person who used to work with victims of Domestic Violence, both in a shelter and as a first responder, I find this comment to be distateful. Maybe you should create an app for quick witted journalists that don’t think before they write.
