It is often said that stars burn the brightest before they flame out. Actually, I’m fairly certain that isn’t the saying at all, but let us not quibble about such trivialities. What is important here is that hopefully, such a fate does not befall one Kige Ramsey, by way of an act by the Veteran’s Committee, has finally been recognized for his achievements and has been rightfully inducted into the Deadspin Hall of Fame.
Ramsey, for those poor souls out there who have not yet become familiar with his considerable body of impressive work, is the figurehead and unquestioned leader of YouTube Sports. Technically, since as far as I know, he might be the only contributor to YouTube Sports, an organization he created all on his own, via a video camera, some spare time, his love of sports and brilliant wood paneling in his parents’ house.
You see, Kige is a Billy Mumphrey of sorts for the Internet Age. Ever the cockeyed optimist, Kige got himself mixed up in the high stakes of world diplomacy and international – - okay, perhaps not so much. But he is a shining beacon to all that anyone can upload a video to YouTube for the entire world to see.
Let’s take a look at some of his highlights through the years. Believe me, they are well worth your time.
Let us first begin with this video, one that Deadspin editor A.J. Daulerio believes “reveals the divine essence of Kige.” One man, a basketball and a failed demonstration on how to shoot a free-throw:
Fantastic. Almost poetic, in a difficult-to-watch kind of way.
His thoughts on the BCS:
A true visionary. Kige was talking about a 16-team tournament way back in 2007!
Remember the John Wall Dance? Kige was all over it.
A YouTube Sports demonstration: How to throw a football:
He’s a regular Staubach, that guy.
But don’t for one second think that Kige Ramsey is some one-trick pony who cannot only talk sports. He is more than able to branch out into other controversial topics. For instance, do you have an acne problem?
Wetting a warshcloth. I see…
You have relationship troubles? Kige is your man.
Swine flu? Kige has got that one covered, too.
“Kige Ramsey here with swine flu……….tips.” Classic.
And finally, one of my personal favorites, from way back in 2007, some harsh words for Nicole Richie due to her issue of “having anorexic.”
Now, there is a lot to digest in these videos, but believe me, I merely scratched the surface about all that is wonderful about Kige Ramsey.
So, Kige, congratulations on your remarkable achievement of getting inducted into the Deadspin Hall of Fame. Don’t let it go to your head, but feel free to celebrate with a whole mess of Hushpuppies, I know how you love them.
