Remember '72 … Kevin Durant has a message for Russia

Sep 9, 2010, 7:00 PM EST

Actually, it was the USSR back then, when the U.S. was robbed of a gold medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics (which became known for much more horrific happenings, unfortunately). But despite the fact that 2010 Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said that ’72 had absolutely no bearing on this year, USA guard Kevin Durant apparently disagreed. He had scrawled “1972″ on his sneakers at the U.S. took on Russia in the FIBA world championships earlier today.
Durant had 33 points in the USA’s 89-79 victory. Nice to see one of our players noting history and paying homage to those who came before.
