Middle School football coach fired over anti-Obama song

Sep 9, 2010, 3:00 PM EST

Bryan Glover, 26, was an assistant coach for the Grassland Middle School football team in Franklin, Tenn.; and congratulations on shooting for the stars on that career path, my friend. Anyway, he’s been fired. Why? Because in his spare time, Glover writes twangy country ballads about what’s wrong with our nation … primary target, President Obama. And that would be fine, except that he took his current masterpiece, entitled When You’re Holding a Hammer, Everything Looks Like a Nail, and emailed it to everyone on the football team’s mailing list, including parents and school administrators. Unamused by the country-fried political Spam, school officials reminded Glover of the 1962 George Jones hit Big Fool of the Year, and canned his a**.
Video of Glover’s song, following the jump.

Kind of catchy, but it loses steam around the time that Glover attempts to rhyme “hell” with “nail,” and never really recovers. Anyway, maybe a Nashville middle school is looking for an aspiring middle school receivers coach/tunesmith. This could be the beginning of a gigantic career.
Meanwhile, attention Mike Leach … job opening.

that was absolutely terrible. the words do not rhyme and it sounds cheesey. three minutes i am not getting back. i guess his point is that up until obama, no president did any “backroom” deals. ok, sure-nice neverland this clown lives in. then he talks about obama blaming bush. i guess he forgot the 2000-2003 years when clinton got blamed for everything. not only is this guy a dope, he is too young and stupid to realize his inability to remember the past. a fool and his job will soon be parted i guess you can say.

The South, America’s embarrassment for over 200 years.

I think he got a raw deal. Whatever happened to freedom of speech in this country. I voted for Obama because he was the best man for the job. The other choice, Palin and McCain? Are you serious? So, let Obama do his thing just like we let GW Bush hijack 2 elections. As far as this country singer goes… I hear a recording contract in the mix. If Will Smith aint busy maybe he can help this guy get a contract… Can’t be any worse than Willow.

I find it appalling that his right to free speech was violated by a principle of a school that is supose to teach children. Our Constitution gives us the right to freedom of speech and since he did this song on his own time and sent it out on his personal computer he has not violated anything by school rules. The email addresses he had were given to him and if someone did not want to receive any emails from him they could have blocked them or let him know to remove them from his list. I hope Mr. Glover gets legal council and sues the Principle, The Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, the School District of Grasslands School for violating his rights to freedom of Speech and Wrongful Termination.
I hope that the above also lose the positions accordingly as they surely do not teach what our constitution provides to every American Citizen.

One, the song is fine. Two, I don’t find it disrespectful of the president or to members of Congress. And, finally, just so no one thinks I’m an Obama hater, I strongly support the President.
As they use to say on “American Bandstand”, the song has a great beat and you can dance to it!
However, him spamming everyone on his e-mail list with the song wasn’t very smart.

Where to begin? Since time/space does not permit a thorough explanation for the uneducated, let me just refer you to a few simple facts. Obama has been systematically emasculating the one entity which keeps all of us (that’s you and your family Mr./Ms liberal)safe and free, namely the US Military. He is a no-experience fool who has been placed in this position through highly questionable forces. Just take off the rosy glasses and face the facts. He bows down to foreign despots, apologizes for the greatest nation on planet earth, is hindering businesses (yeah the “Rich Guys” who do the hiring and provide jobs for millions of Americans), has driven our country into a financial crisis of biblical equivalent, devastated the real estate market plus numerous other crimes against the American citizenry. How absolutely stupid are you in your blind loyalty to this buffoon to not see just what he, and the thugs he has hired, have been doing to us all? Go ahead and keep waving the banner of Obama while the patriotic Americans wave the Stars and Stripes. I have devoted over 25 years of my life to the service of our country as a proud soldier. I’m over 70 years old and remember the cold war in vivid detail. You, sir or madam, most likely do not. Take a break from your cool-aid, NPR and Time Magazine and review the history of America. Ask your older relatives about how they feel having lived through the great depression (another gift of the liberal agenda). Read about how our ancestors fought, bled and died for the freedoms you and others take for granted. They are all probably rolling in their graves knowing what is currently going on in Washington DC. I thank God every day that I am a citizen of the United States of America and yes I endorse the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST”. That trust is the backbone of all we have today. As to the song written by and resulted in the firing of Coach Glover, so much for freedom of speech. This is another example of how political correctness has struck again. The man did it on his time used his resources. It probably was a mistake to send it out to everyone but all they had to do was delete the email. The coach will come through this just fine and may find this was an avenue to another career path. This November, hopefully the sleeping American Juggernaut will awaken and clean house in Washington. Then in two years, flush the White House. If they don’t, may God forgive our ambivalence.

The point isn’t if you agree or disagree with his message, or the music is well done or not, or if you despise or like folks from the South. There used to be a saying that freedom loving peole had: “I may not agree with your point of view, but I
will fight to the death for your freedom to express it” That notion is gone. We must all now keep our mounths shut and walk in lock step with all things politically correct or “the hammer ” truly does fall on us. Shame on us for not standing up for this man’s right to express himself! We might as well declare the First Amendment to the Constitution officially dead.

Let’s face it our country does have MAJOR problems. This HealthCare plan if it goes thru will really take us down…down…down. I see no problem with Coach Grover’s song…like previously said maybe he shouldn’t have sent it out to all those people, but still we are suppose to have freedom of speech. Our government allows atheists to take prayer out of our schools, they dictate what forms of discipline can be used in schools (there aren’t many) etc etc and they fire a coach over a song—come on guys. Sometime we are going to have to stand up for our rights. I don’t know this gentleman but if he is a good teacher he SHOULD NOT be fired for this. Guess the principal or superintendent is a democrat and took offense to the song.

Where is the union to support this coach? If he would have had sex, etc with a student the union would be making sure he had his rights. Does this mean the union cannot or will not stand up for FREEDOM OF SPEECH? If not, why not? Our students must listen to liberal teachers in the classroom and the parents cannot do a thing, but a teacher can be fired without due process is terrible. Maybe Obama can hold a meeting with the school board and the coach in the Rose Garden.
