Morning Tweet: Stephanie Rice has been a very naughty girl

Sep 7, 2010, 9:00 AM EDT

I haven’t been able to find a screen shot of it, but let the record show that Australian swimmer Stephanie Rice is in plenty of trouble — most notably with sponsors — over a homophobic tweet on Saturday. It all occurred due to a rugby union test match; Australia’s last-minute win over South Africa on Saturday. From the Herald Sun:

Remarking after the Wallabies’ two-point win over the Springboks in South Africa on Saturday night, Rice — who has left the Commonwealth Games team due to injury — tweeted: “Suck on that f–gots,” adding: “Probably the best game I’ve ever seen!! Well done boys.”

As criticism began to build, Rice tweeted:

“Okay so maybe I got a bit too excited before!! But I love seeing Australians do well.”

Then Monday:

“I did not mean to cause offence and I apologise. I have deleted it from the site.”

Too late. Jaguar has terminated their contract with her — giving back one’s Jag is one of the saddest things in life — and one of her other big sponsors, Davenport Underwear, is distancing itself from the remarks. Davenport is popular with gay people, so I’m told.
Openly gay former Australian rugby league great Ian Roberts was not amused.

“She is an idiot and anyone who continues to endorse her as an athlete is an idiot as well,” Roberts told the Sydney Daily Telegraph. “And I say that with a very sad tone in my voice. What a fool.”

Probably not the best Stephanie could be.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT

I see no way this can end badly

* You are hereby sentenced to death by vuvuzela.

* Spain nearly won a title in blind soccer as well.

* For $25, you can win a chance to name Leonard Weaver’s dog. My choice was Steve.

Skids: Come on, Geez! Freedom of Speech only deals with Government censure of it’s citizens, companies can do whatever they want. Go back to school before posting again!

I am always amazed at how ‘innocent’ the gay community is to everything about them, yet they totally want to be part of the world. A gay rugby player is quoted…a gay rugby player. That one is too easy!

Skids, you may not realize this but Australia is not part of the United States. The US Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, but the Australian Constitution doesn’t. So, your dumb comment about only “libs” having freedom speech is completely pointless, except to show what an ignorant jackass you are.

Does everyone hearing or reading the word really think of gay people? Gawd! I guess I’m in the minority of people that just think of it as slang for loser, idiot, or general insult to a male.
