Fight! Old guy vs. young punk in the stands at the U.S. Open (WITH UPDATE)
Sep 3, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT
When a nice evening of tennis suddenly becomes a night at an Eagles-Giants game, we all win. Even Novak Djokovic and Philipp Petzschner stopped playing to watch the action in the stands at the U.S. Open in the upper deck at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The young guy, obviously addicted to the TV show Jersey Shore, sets the U.S. record for hand gestures during an argument. The woman tells him where young punks like him can stick it. And when young guy tells her that if she doesn’t like it, to go ahead and hit him (reportedly), she obliges. Old guy coming to her rescue succeeds in little more than taking a tumble down the stairs. So, who is more at fault? Videos from two angles, and what the police made of all this, following the jump.
Videos following the jump.
Here’s a video of the incident from a different angle (NSFW language):
Wait … young guys says “I got a lot of money on the game.”? What?
From the Washington Post:
Djokovic, who hails from Serbia, won, by the way, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
“It was far away from the court; we couldn’t really see what was going on,” Djokovic said. “I hope it was no Serbian up there.”
According to the New York Post, the brawl stemmed from an issue over vocabulary. “He said, ‘You’ve got a problem? Go ahead and hit me,’ and she slapped him across the face,” a source told the Post.
All three fans were taken the 110th Precinct in Queens, Tim Curry, a spokesman for the United States Tennis Association, said. They were not charged; rather, they were given trespass warnings and told not to return to the Open for a certain amount of time, the New York Times reported (authorities were not aware of the duration).
Place your bets on who will be first on the network morning shows tomorrow.

jack…nobody appointed you the judge and jury. So let it go.
I saw the video and I laughed it about and was entertained by the spectacle. Yes I find the actions of fools to be very entertaining. Yes I’m adding the comments by dave and jack to gallery of fools.

NY’ers are supposed to be tough guys, right? How the eff does anyone sitting nearby let this guy run his mouth for so long with telling him to sit down and shut the hell up?! There was a guys sitting right there, maybe a friend, but still just sitting there! I know it’s tennis but fellas…you gotta step up when it counts! At least the old guy made a move. Then everybody steps in, AFTER.
Nice work guys. You should all be proud (read “embarrassed”) . shoulda, coulda, woulda but didn’t. I am sure that Tommy, Joey, Johnny, Richie or whatever that douches name is was bragging to his friends afterward. Where’s MTV with his contract?

The argument went on for a very long time before it got physical. My question is, where was Security? This could have been stopped long before it got ugly. Typical nitwits.

The old guy assaulted the young guy…doesn’t matter what was SAID.

Anyone of you condoning violence is wrong and probably ok hitting your significant other because they “deserved it”. No matter what that stupid kid said, if you dont like it you call security and set an example for kids out there and not assault someone.
And the fat one and old timer are lucky that that cocky kid didn’t clean their clocks after smacking and wrestling him.

JEG, as a 40-something short guy, please allow me to answer the question posed in your first commentary. We short guys are not gender or age-biased when choosing the targeted outlets for the decades of frustrations resultant of our vertically-challenged existences. In fact, the short guy handbook specifically notes to avoid such perceptions of discrimination and focus only on those who are either shorter or weaker than the short guy himself. We may be doctors, lawyers, professors or scientists — but irrespective of our professional, academic, social or financial accomplishments, our (albeit short) genetics dictate that we never back down from an ego-compromising challenge. I hope this provides some insight into your query. If not, I could always pound it into you. Cheers!

Wow, Campbell…
So hypothetically speaking, if someone called your wife/girlfriend the c-word in front of you you wouldn’t feel justified in smacking said person?
I’m sure your woman would not be on board with that philosophy…

The young punk should have been beaten up. We are all here judging these and siding with the punk. The problem here is we dont know what the punk said to the woman or the man. The crowd did and as you can see, they sided with the old folks. Now to be fair, if you let this punk verbally abuse your mom and dad, and you restrain yourself from hitting him, then good for you. Until then, just go with the crowd. and the crowd went with the old folks. Freedom of speech is not absolute, try yelling I HAVE A BOMB, inside an airplane and watch what happens to you. Still think all speech is sacred.. ?????????

Young punk shows no class with his constant use of obsencities! He obviously didn’t get enough soap when growing up. In the privacy of your home, cussing is one thing, at a spectator sports that can be family oriented? Not allowed and the young punk deserved a much bigger beatdown. Seriously, how uneducated and unintelligent must you be to use the F word that often? Too dumb to voice your thoughts?

Classic case of bad language use by youth leading to a older woman writing checks with her mouththat her husband, boyfriend whatever couldn’t cash. Oh yeah, and where was security?

Two different generations. Young generation thinks you can say anything to anybody. Older generation takes it as a point of honor if you talk like that to your wife or daughter. The older guy gave the punk the smack down his dad should have given him a long time ago.

Yes. That is it in a nutshell. Loud mouth gym rat (and tennis fan!) with no respect. I feel bad for the old guy. I hope he is good with his actions. He did the right thing but he ended up getting hurt. Better than just taking it though.

From what I can see, the “lady” and older gent started the fight. Not the other way around.
