Rachel Uchitel visits Ground Zero, tells critics 'Nobody can f*** with me about 9/11'

Sep 1, 2010, 12:00 PM EST

I suppose it could have been more controversial; Rachel Uchitel could have announced her support for a mosque at Ground Zero. But this is receiving plenty of backlash as it is: Uchitel, known better as Tiger Woods mistress No. 1 and all-around gal about town, recently paid a visit to the site of the World Trade Center disaster as part of her appearance on the VH1 show Celebrity Rehab. This is not going over well in NYC tabloid land. And Uchitel, who lost her fiance, James O’Grady, in the 9/11 attacks, is taking the criticism in stride as you can see with this quote:

“Who the f–k are people to be talking about me?” Uchitel said. “Until they go through what I went through, living with a guy and being engaged to him and having that person dead an hour after waking up next to him … Nobody can f–k with me about 9/11.”

The Post itself is staying neutral, aside from calling Uchitel a “Serial celebrity suck-up” and “Pillow-lipped party girl.” So OK, I guess they’re not staying neutral.

Uchitel said she visited the site to “get closure on some stuff I’ve been dealing with . . . and I don’t know why people would take that the wrong way.

“If people think I’m milking something for the benefit of getting on TV or getting more well-known, I’m already well-known,” she said.

The pillow-lipped party girl visited Ground Zero Thursday, trailed by “Celebrity Rehab” cameras.

“This is something we decided to do as part of my closure,” she said. “There’s a lot of stuff we did in New York that wasn’t filmed.”

Uchitel was joined at the hallowed site by the show’s host, Dr. Drew Pinsky.

Uchitel refused to say what she did at Ground Zero — “I can’t get into details about that if they’re going to use it on the show,” she said.

An insider told The Post that the idea for her visit to the World Trade Center site came from Pinsky when he and Uchitel did a pre-interview for a proposed appearance on an upcoming episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

“Rachel hasn’t been back [to Ground Zero] since 9/11, but in the ‘Oprah’ pre-interview, Pinsky said he thought that she needed to go there, that it was the key to her healing, that she couldn’t move on until she tackled those demons,” the insider said, adding that the possible “Oprah” appearance was subsequently nixed.

A Tiger Woods mistress visiting Ground Zero with reality show cameras in tow is certainly the perfect breeding ground for controversy; everyone has an opinion about something in that sentence. But this is the perfect time to remember what this country stands for, and what those people died for in Sept. of ’01. It was so Americans would have the right to build a Muslim-based worship center wherever they choose, or for reality show celebs to walk through rubble in high heels, no matter how hallowed the ground. The more egregious the act, the stronger we prove we are. If a mosque can be built near Ground Zero, the world knows our Constitution is bulletproof. Let this be our battle cry: If we don’t let Rachel Uchitel and Dr. Drew walk hand-in-hand around the World Trade Center site, the terrorists win.

This proposed mosque is actually being referred to as a “mega-mosque” because it’s supposed to be 13 stories tall and cost $100 million to build (construction is said to be scheduled to take only one year). The developers refuse to disclose the funding sources behind that $100 million. Also, and this is the most interesting aspect of all: the proposed name of the mosque is “Cordoba House”. The name is a reference to Cordoba, Spain, which is widely considered to be the ultimate Muslim symbol of conquest. When the Muslims conquered the Christian Spaniards, they transformed their church into the world’s third largest mosque complex. It was intended to be the ultimate insult to Christianity. The leaders of the mosque development movement in NY say the name Cordoba House is supposed to be a reference to “symbolizing interfaith cooperation”. Every practicing Muslim knows its true meaning however. By the way, there are already 100+ mosques in New York City. There is “less than one” churches or synagogues anywhere in Saudi Arabia.

@Florida727: You either believe in religious equality or you don’t; there’s no gray-areas in tolerance. Besides, the idea that those morons were practicing Muslims is absurd. Religious persecution is always abhorrent, especially in a country that professes religious tolerance. It’s ironic that you use Saudi intolerance to support YOUR proposed intolerance.

It blows my mind that this pig’s fifteen minutes aren’t up yet. She’s a skank who makes a living screwing married guys, then has the audacity to hire Allred to collect a hefty payday from Woods. She would have more credibility just working at The Bunny Ranch in Vegas. When you hear her speak, and the “F” words she carefully chooses, it’s not surprising her claim to fame is being a receptacle for guys that need an outlet. That’ll be a great epitaph on her stone….

No one should ever be allowed within 15 miles of the 911 site. It is sacred ground. Since many Muslim countries have no freedom of religion, let’s get rid of freedom of religion here. Get rid of the all the churchs, synagogues, temples and mosques in this country. Let’s make the only religion the Peoples Temple. Now practice drinking the kool-aid.

There are thousands of people who lost family in 9/11. They don’t need to go on a stupid reality show (and being paid for it) to deal with their grief. They are dealing with their grief with dignity and respect. This woman has none of those qualities.

  13. Orlando J. - Sep 2, 2010 at 1:58 PM

Florida, all that “Cordoba” nonsense is fiction. Even the original “Cordoba” was built to memorialize the victory of one Muslim sect over another, not victory over Christianity.
The folks involved in the proposed project have been in NYC for decades, and are all well-known for promoting interfaith tolerance. Attacking and accusing them of somehow being connected to 9/11 is vile and dishonest. This group is doing exactly what people have been saying American muslims should do — promote interfaith peace and understanding. The leader of the group is known worldwide for this, and has even been praised by the numbskull Nazis on Fox News.
Think about your comment about the number of churches in Saudi Arabia for a moment. What you are suggesting is that the United States should become less like a modern democracy and more like a backward, religiously intolerant Middle Eastern country.
If you think America is better than a country like that, why would you suggest we act MORE like them? And how does it makes sense to treat Muslim Americans, who have never been implicated in 9/11, like evil terrorists, when clearly they chose to live in the U.S., not Saudi Arabia or Iran?

Point by point reply to another idiot:
“This proposed mosque is actually being referred to as a “mega-mosque” because it’s supposed to be 13 stories tall and cost $100 million to build (construction is said to be scheduled to take only one year).”
a)–it is not a mosque no matter how many times you say it is. Gog read the website under FAQ.
    http://www.cordobainitiative.org/?q=content/frequently-asked-questions
Calling it a mosque is like calling your local YMCA a cathederal. b)Of course it is 13 stories tall. In Manhattan it makes no sense to build anything short on such a small footprint.
“The developers refuse to disclose the funding sources behind that $100 million.”
So what? Hundreds of conservative organizations in this country refuse to disclose THEIR donors. Why should this private organization be treated any differently? Unless of course you blieve they should be prosecuted based solely on their religion.
“Also, and this is the most interesting aspect of all: the proposed name of the mosque is “Cordoba House”. The name is a reference to Cordoba, Spain, which is widely considered to be the ultimate Muslim symbol of conquest.”
Source for “widely”? And Rush Limbaugh or Fox News doesn’t count as a source. If you go back to the above web address, you will see that this organization has a much more open inclusive view of what Cordoba means. That YOU choose to define it in a different way, is YOUR problem, not theirs.
“When the Muslims conquered the Christian Spaniards, they transformed their church into the world’s third largest mosque complex. It was intended to be the ultimate insult to Christianity.”
Guess what, Christian Crusaders did EXACTLY the same thing when they conquered Muslim territories. It is what conquering forces DO. And your second sentence is just your personal editorializing about historic era of which you obviously know nothing. I repeat, they did nothing that all conquering empires haven’t done over the millennia. They were no better and no worse than the Christian ones.
“The leaders of the mosque development movement in NY say the name Cordoba House is supposed to be a reference to “symbolizing interfaith cooperation”. Every practicing Muslim knows its true meaning however.”
Such a baseless, irrational charge barely warrants response. I suppose since you are certain you have the only correct interpretation of the Bible, you also are an expert on the interpretation of the Koran and medieval history?
” By the way, there are already 100+ mosques in New York City. There is “less than one” churches or synagogues anywhere in Saudi Arabia.”
What does Saudi Arabia’s religious oppression have to do with this issue? That we should sink to their level? Probably a better way of expressing dissatisfaction with Saudi Arabia is to boycott their sole product–oil. You are driving a solar-powered car made from balsa, aren’t you?

  15. Chuck - Sep 2, 2010 at 3:02 PM

It’s always of interest to me that the left has nothing but tolerance when it comes to Muslims, but none at all for Christians.
Has it occured to anyone else that if the purpose of this mosque is to foster interfaith tolerance and harmony, that they should move the location if only on the basis of the controversy it’s location is stirring up? The very act of putting it in this location is polarizing the situation and making such goals more difficult, if not impossible. And, yes, you can call names at the people who don’t like it, but it will still be polarizing, and still cause hostility. And name calling will itself be counter productive.
