Monday Blogdome: The Greek boot of justice comes down on soccer diver

Aug 30, 2010, 5:00 PM EST

* Let This Be A Warning To Arjen Robben And His Fellow Divers. Most soccer fans loathe when players dive to the ground to get a card especially when they overreact. It’s even more infuriating when great players do it on a regular basis. I’m looking at you, Arjen Robben and Didier Drogba. Robert Pires was an expert at the diving game. There usually aren’t any repercussions for divers unless they play in Greece. Check this player’s reaction after being sent off for a tackle. [Deuce of Davenport]
* The Ugliest NFL Jersey You’ve Ever Seen? If the Eagles ever wanted to play the San Diego Padres in a battle of inter-league paintball, or something, they’d be all set with these camo football jerseys hot off the press from hunting apparrell maker Realtree. [The 700 Level]

* Bees Roux, Rugby Player, Charged With Murder Of Policeman. South African rugby union player Bees Roux was charged with murder Monday in the beating death of a policeman in Pretoria. Roux’s lawyer, Rudi Krause, said during a bail hearing that his client would plead not guilty to killing Sgt. Ntshimane Mogale. [Huffington Post]
* All Aboard The Ron Artest Crazy Train: Says He Wants To Eat ‘Twilight’ Characters. “I wish I could be in the movie and be like the villain. I want to be the big bad one that just eats everybody. … I want to eat Edward and Jacob.” [Sportress of Blogitude]
* And Now, Let’s Get Awkward With ‘Around The Horn’ Talking About Jay Mariotti’s Arrest. Actually, they didn’t talk about Jay Mariotti’s arrest or its consequences, but rather the media hoopla surrounding it. The transcript can be found here. My opinion is probably mostly in line with Richard Deitsch, who commends ATH for tackling the issue, but, next to ignoring it altogether, definitely did so in the safest way possible. [Awful Announcing]
* For the Record: The starting quarterback for Memphis will be Cannon Smith, the son of FedEx founder Fred Smith … Want to get away? This Russian goalie does.
