Canadian Women's Open: They have mosquitoes in Canada now?

michelle-wie-canadian-open.jpgI know! Who knew, right?
Shocking news aside, it was a rainy day in Winnipeg for the third round of the Canadian Women’s Open, which, as anyone who lives in a climate where the Minnesota State Bird has found itself a cozy ecological niche, rain brings those little SOB’s out in droves.
It had more of an adverse effect on leader Michelle Wie, who began the third round with a three-shot lead only to shoot an even-par round, while her playing partner Jiyai Shin, dealt with the bloodsucking nuisances a bit better, shooting a three-under 69 to tie Wie for the tournament lead heading into Sunday.
After her so-so round (while she was hopefully applying a liberal amount of Calamine lotion to her beautiful skin – I could go on, but I won’t – I’m not a sicko, jeez), Wie addressed the Great Canadian Mosquito Plague of 2010 (via NBC Sports/AP):

“I have to say of everything, the mosquitoes were the hardest to concentrate,” Wie said. “They were pretty bad. But I found out they were a little better on the greens than on the fairways.

“They were very bad on the rough, so I’ll try to avoid that tomorrow.”

Indeed you shall, Michelle. Indeed you shall. Hopefully, you will be able to re-create this adorable scene with Jiyai Shin after Sunday’s round while celebrating your second career LPGA victory:

Yeah, that’s nice. And hilarious. The freaky part? Jiyah Shin is 6-foot-2-inches tall. Wow.
