So here’s another kid basketball phenom video; this time showcasing the relatively old Damon Harge of Mountain House, Calif., who at age 11 took the No. 1 ranking at the adidas Junior Phenom Camp for middle schoolers. Harge scored 50 points in one game at the camp, and has some pretty nice moves, as you’ll see in the video after the jump. Harge’s big dream is to play for the Kentucky Wildcats.
There seems to be one of these Amazing Kid basketball videos every month, showcasing deft between-the-legs dribbling and amazing quickness and shooting skills. But I’d take these things a little more seriously if we could just once in these videos see the kid is doing defensive slides, practicing post defense, working on blocking out or doing a loose ball drill. If any of those kids at the adidas camp could play a lick of defense, maybe he wouldn’t have scored 50 in that game.

These videos typically feature offense, but another video on vimeo by gametime videos shows defensive skills. Also, at phenom camp, in the 50 point showing, ~14 points were from steals and defensive stops.
