Bud Selig, now available in bronze for your eternal scorn

Aug 24, 2010, 1:45 PM EST

They unveiled the Bud Selig statue on Tuesday at Miller Park amidst much fanfare … or, as much fanfare as can be mustered by a string ensemble. The statue is nestled between Hall of Fame greats Hank Aaron and Robin Yount, a fact that Mr. Selig was sure to mention in his remarks. But while the on-site festivities resembled Mr. Holland’s Opus, the reception in the comments section of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was more Ten Things I Hate About You. How do Brewers fans really feel about having Selig’s eternal likeness in their midst? Excerpts following the jump.

From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel comments section:

* he had hands down, the most controversial and heinous thing ever to hit baseball land in his lap, and he chose to turn his head to it. so he brought baseball to milwaukee again, all anyone does is complain about the gm and coach, so is it really THAT big a thing? — 4sight

* Selig was spineless. Imagine high schools filled with future pro athletes with heads like BB. What a disgrace. His actions on the stadium was another issue. His “rich deserve more” attitude was disgusting. — Trent 611

* The guy is was and will always be a used car salesman. For years he screamed that in order to make the Brewers competitive we needed a new stadium. The tax payers footed the bill for a new stadium and he proceeded to reduce payroll and field some of the worst teams in mlb history. — goodnightnow

* How much will parking cost for this event? — BigAfro

* This is an absolute sin. He is a disgrace to baseball by allowing all the drug cheating that took place during his tenure as commissioner. He has been nothing but a puppet for the owners and a farce as the leader of baseball in America. As for the Brewers owner he was a joke as was his appointee daughter. — tomahawk66

* Is this statue going to be in the form of his dumb look with his arms in the air during the tied All-Star game at Miller Park? — Jimmybruce

* A better tribute would be to make a likeness of him in the form of a fire hydrant and plant it in a dog park. — Mr.Fairway

* You want to build a statue to the person or people who kept the Brewers here? Try the Milwaukee County taxpayers. — WiFritz

* What about a Manny Parra statue? — Klisch
