Obama skips church for golf yet again

Aug 23, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT

Look, if there’s anything that proves President Obama isn’t a Muslim, it’s the fact that he skipped church to go play golf. That’s as American as a fife and drum on the Fourth of July. But despite the fact that Ward Cleaver tried to get away with the same thing in practically every episode of Leave it to Beaver, conservative-leaning blogs are in a holy uproar of Obama’s frequent golf outings. Example: he’s played 43 rounds of golf — 23 of them played on a Sunday. That’s more than Bush in both terms! That’s about every other week. How Christian. NOT.

The Obama’s are on a 10-day vacation at Martha’s Vineyard. From the Boston Herald:

Instead of attending church services at one of the dozens and dozens of quaint, island Christian churches yesterday morning, the commander in chief hit Our Lady of the Fairways, aka the Vineyard Golf Club, yet again, to play 18.

It was Obama’s second outing to the posh, private golf club since landing Thursday on The Rock. The prez teed off at 8:30 a.m. under cloudy, drizzly skies. A perfect day to be inside. Like, say, in church!

Now you’d think, with polls showing that one in five Americans believe Obama is a Muslim — and with the furor over the president’s flip-flops on the Ground Zero mosque — that his White House handlers might have orchestrated a nice little photo op of the first family doing a little vacation worshiping yesterday morning.

Because, despite the administration’s insistence that Barry is a Christian and that he prays daily, most Americans have noticed that Obama rarely attends church. That’s a noticeable departure from previous presidents, such as George W. Bush and Clinton, who were on their knees every Sunday.

Of course, the last time Obama had a regular church, it was Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright fame, and, well, we all know how that turned out.

The president’s handlers have said Obama doesn’t attend services regularly because he doesn’t want to be “hugely disruptive to congregations.” This is apparently not an issue on the golf course.

Fox News has already made its position known on Obama’s separation of church and links. But more telling to me is what the Obamas did after the outing. The family visited a bookstore in Vineyard named A Bunch of Grapes:

Obama purchased “Freedom,” a new novel by National Book Award winner Jonathan Franzen; “Tinkers,” by Georgetown author Paul Harding; and “A Few Corrections,” by Brad Leithauser . The girls bought “To Kill A Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee, John Steinbeck’s “The Red Pony” and “The Hunger Games,” by Suzanne Collins.

Nation in good hands. Carry on.

Let us get to the more important question we should all ask…..What did he score on his round? Futhermore, I personally am curious what he uses from 150 yards. With his height, he must be able to generate alot of clubhead speed. I would want to know these things, because I already know the guy has the toughest job in the world, and deserves to relax when the opportunity arises.

Remember the moonies, and the davidians, and the crusades, and the inquisition, and all the atrocities perpetrated in the name of “God”? I have yet to learn of a war between agnostics or atheists, or simple folk who have a mind, and a soul, of their own and refrain from trying to impose their views or morality on others. I hear people call themselves “Christians” yet worship the Almighty dollar, vote for warmongers, oppose compasionate legislation, judge others as if they were “holier than thou”, treat people different from them as less than human, and think driving anything other than a gas guzzler is unAmerican. Go figure.

Obama was a member of that church for political reasons. He admitted he didn’t hear many of Jerimia’s sermoms because he wasn’t there that often. He just loves Muslims more.

Going to church don’t make you a Christian. So most of you complain should know that. No matter what this man dose it will not ever be good enough for white america. I wonder what the Native Indian are saying right now. You people came and took our land and destroy it so you get as good as you give. The hate that come out of some of your mouths. White men have been playing golf on Sunday since I was a child, but as soon as a black man want play he is judge and burned at the stake. I feel sorry for anyone who think tht Heaven is their home when hate is in their hearts.

First of all the people that still try to connect 9/11 to Iraq are very uneducated to believe such nonsense. Yes, the United States went to war under the wrong premise, weapons of mass destruction, but to save a country from a dictator who killed hundreds of thousands is definitely a noble cause. As far as protecting ourselves against people who do not threaten us, apparently your sense of history does not serve you well. Look at the attacks at the World Trade Center in 1993, attacks in Kenya and Tanzania in the mid 90′s, USS Cole attack and those a naming only those that have affected the United States before 9/11 happened. Your traitors to the crown nonsense is not even worth comment as I have worked with British counterparts all over the world and you sir, do not represent your country with the dignity of any of the British I have met.

Amen bump. The only intelligent thing written thus far.

I agree totally. I can’t even believe this is a news story. The man’s on vacation, so he misses church & that’s a story? The country has a whole lot more things to worry about than this. Enjoy the vacation President Obama.

I just think sometimes your great nation needs to get off its high horse thats all.
Most Brits greatly dislike America and Americans I on the other hand love your country and sports.
What it has to do with Obama and Golf it means if you dont note your countrys bigger sins, a President playing golf is a non issue.

  19. Ukman - Aug 23, 2010 at 3:55 PM

You get attacked a lot because of your treatment of the terrorist state of Israel and most nations cannot understand why you are so blind to there many evil actions

How do you know he served? it could just be a username for attention.

  25. Ricky - Aug 23, 2010 at 4:06 PM

Just because someone doesn’t attend church, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t Christian. I believe in Jesus Christ and I don’t go to church. Read the bible. Twice in ACTS it says “You will not find God in a temple built of human hands.” Somewhere else, I’m not sure, it tells you to go your room and pray in private.
