Remember this from Tuesday? Roger Federer knocking a bottle off a guy’s head with a tennis serve, not once, but twice, during a commercial shoot for Gillette. It’s interesting how most people get fooled by this stuff. The Fresno Grizzlies ball girl (for Gatorade), Shaun Suisham 110-yard field goal (WUSA promo), both as fake as a Nick Saban political endorsement. While Federer is not explicitly saying that his trick shot was digitally enhanced, he hinted at it:
There were questions about whether it’s really a trick shot or a video trick. Following his opening match at the Cincinnati Masters on Wednesday night, he was asked directly whether the video is real.
“Not saying that,” is how he responded. Then he added that “a magician doesn’t tell how his tricks work.”
Yeah, fake.
Eighty-six years of bangin’ our heads against the big green wall, but we finally did it. That part you know. That part everybody knows. But I got a story you don’t know. It’s about Thursday …
ABOUT LAST NIGHT
What you missed while welcoming our new bee overlords …
* Glenn Coffee, on leaving the 49ers: “Let’s call it what it is, I did quit on them. That’s the thing that hurts. I don’t have regrets. If I say the toughest thing would be leaving my teammates.”
* So yeah, now what happens to those new South African soccer stadiums?
* The Chris Bosh cameo on Entourage, in case you haven’t seen it. Appropriate for someone from Miami, since the show jumped the shark about two seasons ago.

I was convinced that the Tiger Woods commercial where he’s bouncing the ball on his club all over the place and then whacks it down the range was fake. Until it was conclusively proven true. And he needed only two takes to do it.
I wouldn’t rule out the Federer thing being real.

Tiger’s trick was much easier than Roger’s and no risk of someone taking a tennis ball to the face at 100mph. Roger’s trick was cool but still fake.
