Saturday Blogdome: John Daly a quitter? Unpossible!

Aug 14, 2010, 3:00 PM EDT

john daly cig.jpgJohn Daly’s career could be summed up in two letters: WD. John Daly has won five PGA Tour events in his career, including two major championships. He’s arguably the third most recognizable name in the game of golf. His win at the 1991 PGA Championship will forever go down as one of the most bizarre yet coolest stories in major championship history. But above all that, the man known as Big John will forever be remembered as the guy that couldn’t finish a damn golf tournament. That was never more apparent than Friday at Whistling Straits where, for the second straight year, Daly withdrew from the major he has a lifetime exemption into. He cited a shoulder injury. How does that not surprise you? [Devil Ball Golf]
Patrick Kane ‘little scared’ while stranded on ladder with Stanley Cup.
Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun Times said a quick jolt from the motor startled Kane, who kept his composure. He’d need to keep it again after the ladder raised him 70 feet into the Buffalo skyline … because Kane remained there for a good 20 minutes, stuck in the air with the Stanley Cup. [Puck Daddy]

Will We Be Seeing Friar Glen Coffee? Tim Tebow inspired the “friar” nickname with his jacked up rookie hazing haircut last weekend, but we may be seeing another friar for a different reason. Former Alabama running back and 49ers backup Glen Coffee shocked many people by deciding he was going to retire from football. The last impression Coffee left on the Niners was a poor one — he was berated by a coach for getting pancaked trying to block a linebacker. [Larry Brown Sports]
Beer: Saving Women From Foul Balls Since 2010. Just ask this woman who’s life was spared during Thursday’s Marlins/Nationals game, thanks to the ice cold bottle of heaven she was holding. A foul ball off the bat of a Marlins batter was headed straight for the women, and most likely would have struck her in the head or neck, undoubtedly causing serious injury, had it not been for said bottle of beer. Shaq To Solidify Celtics’ Ability To Get 3-Second Violations. NBA analyst David Aldridge said Wednesday that with the addition of Shaquille O’Neal, the Celtics have vastly improved their chances of leading the league in three-second lane violations for the 2010-2011 season. “Not only does Shaq’s presence in the paint give his team more opportunities to turn the ball over, but the Celtics have also added an experienced big man who makes an already old team significantly older,” said Aldridge, adding that O’Neal should fill a key role in terms of drastically slowing down the Celtics’ offense.
