Exhibit No. 968 why kickers shouldn't talk, let alone trash talk

Aug 14, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT

harrison waid.jpgComing of a 2009 campaign where the WAC-based San Jose State Spartans not only went 2-10 but also saw their head coach retire, the squad has their work more than cut out for them when they open up the 2010 season on the road against National Champion University of Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
To make matters worse, Harrison Waid, the team’s redshirt freshman kicker, who clearly lacks that little mechanism in his brain that prevents ridiculous thoughts to make it all the way to his mouth, decided some semi-smack talk might pump up his squad before the team’s September 4th matchup against Nick Saban’s gridiron minions. Get a load of what this amusingly naive kid had to say about their chances against the powerhouse that is the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Via the Mercury News:

“We’re excited we get to go knock them around. If we can beat them we’ll remember it for the rest of our lives no matter what else happens.”

(head asplodes)
Oof. Good luck with all that, redshirt fresman kicker guy. Next time, you might want to think twice before providing bulletin board material for a team who is already favored to beat your ragtag group of football players by a whopping 38 points.
Actually, is there anything a kicker could possibly say which is capable of rising to the level of bulletin board material? I guess we’ll have to wait and see until early September. If the Crimson Tide rolls and beats the Spartans by 68 instead of 38, maybe.

My advice Harrison Waid is, “Run Banbi, run!”

Maybe he remembers ‘Bama dropping a game to Louisiana-Monroe back in 2007. Only problem is, this is a MUCH different Tide team with MUCH more to play for than that one did. Be that as it may, it’s unlikely anyone will pay attention to his ramblings…except maybe to knock HIM around on the one and only kickoff he’ll get all day.
