Dogpile! Now Dennis Rodman is slamming LeBron

Aug 13, 2010, 11:30 AM EDT

First came The Decision, hungrily devoured by fans but widely panned by critics, including Charles Barkley. Then came The Decision II, in which LeBron James unwisely chose to play the basketball games at an Ohio carnival, and was roundly heckled. Then the unfortunate “Twitter Airing of Grievances.” And now this: When Dennis Rodman was asked on Thursday to compare Scottie Pippen to LeBron, The Worm did not pull any punches.

“People talk about LeBron,” said Rodman. “You’ve got to understand, LeBron has no business even being in the same conversation with Scottie. Scottie was the epitome of the (do it all elite player). What do you want me to say? Scottie was great.”

Not “Pippen was better than LeBron,” or “I give the edge to Scottie,” but “LeBron has no business even being in the same conversation with Scottie.” That’s going out of your way to make a point. Rodman made the remarks following an autograph session at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
LeBron’s poll numbers are dropping, by most accounts. An LA-based marketing poll has his “overexposed” number up 26 percent. Of course a lot of that will change if and when he starts winning in Miami. But for now, he needs to take a page from Tiger Woods’ book and drop out of sight for about a month.

Rodman: Don’t compare LeBron to Pippen [Bulls.com]

  1. skidog - Aug 13, 2010 at 3:31 PM

Enough already! Pippen is headed to the Hall of Fame enough said and Lebron will one day be there. U can’t compare these players because of the different era’s they played in. True ball players from Chicago, New York….etc know this, all this debate about Kobe being better that Mike and Lebron being better that Pippen is ludicrous, these players played in different era’s and the league has changed.

  2. TexasMike - Aug 13, 2010 at 3:41 PM

I have to laugh when guys like you say he had no chance to win in Cleveland. Up until the point when LeQuit laid down and the Cavs lost to the Celtics, most of the “experts” had the Cavs as the team to beat for the title. Miami had better win it this next season, because if they don’t, the finger pointing is going to start and Lebron’s legacy will be LeFlushed.

  3. brad racey - Aug 13, 2010 at 3:42 PM

Scottie Pippen could take the best player at any position out of the game defensively and outside of Dominique Wilkins or Jordan who else attacked the rim like him plus when have you seen somebody use the glass so well? I am a Knicks fan to the heart and as someone who always rooted against the Bulls my opinion is he was JUST AS IMPORTANT AS JORDAN because he was the perfect compliment to Jordan. And for the record I read where the Bulls got robbed on a Game 5 call I would like to remind everyone that “Charles Smith” was fouled also!

  4. wimpy101 - Aug 13, 2010 at 3:45 PM

Let’s count up rings. Pippen – 6. Rodman – 5. LeBron – 0. And if you think Dwayne Wade’s Miami Heat will get a championship or two, you are sorely misguided, as they have no talent on that team at all after the so-called “Big 3″.

  5. bobdevo - Aug 13, 2010 at 4:27 PM

Maybe LeBron will do all those things. Maybe he’ll blow out his ACL the first day of practice this Fall. Maybe he’ll wind up tooting coke and hanging out with cootchi girls in South Beach. Maybe the mother of his children is right not to like the Miami move. We won’t know how the story turns out until later.
What we DO know, however, is that he lay down like a dog in two of the games against the Celtics, and instead of being a man and telling the Cavs to their face he wouldn’t come back, he went on ESPN to puff himself up with that wretched Decision debacle.
Oh – and one other thing we know – the Heat is Dwayne’s team – which either makes Dwayne the Emperor, or makes James something less than a King, cause you’re not the King if your #2.

  6. Ignorance - Aug 13, 2010 at 4:30 PM

The Cavs didn’t make it to the Finals with LeCrap?????? Who played the Spurs in 2007? I am surprised that some of these people commenting can even read.
So based on what Rodman said, the Cavs shouldn’t have been looking for LeWade’s Scottie Pippen, they should have been looking for his Michael Jordan. Miami has his Michael Jordan in D Wade and from here on out LeBrat will always be looked at as a Pippen.
The King had his court in Cleveland now Wade has his Pip’s in South Beach. Once Vince McMahon buys the league we will truly understand what the NBA really is.
I can’t wait for the college basketball season where we will see some competitive play.

  7. brettblouis - Aug 13, 2010 at 4:33 PM

Hey, it’s not surprising to see people already starting to pile into the fall-back position that it won’t be good enough for LBJ to just win. Probably they are a little nervous already that it is going to happen. Good thinking…

  8. bobdevo - Aug 13, 2010 at 4:42 PM

College basketball. Watch out for those Jayhawks.

  9. Sal - Aug 13, 2010 at 4:48 PM

Say what you want about Crazy Rodman wearing a white dress and all, but he won multiple titles with two different teams. The Dude owned the boards, the worm would suspend in air and grab rebounds that made taller Centers look like midgets. So he has some credibility. Having said that, there’s a reason why Jordan was Batman and Pippen was Robyn. Lebron James may someday win a title with Wade, but he will always wear the label of Robyn, not Batman, Period! He’ll always be the guy who loves being called the King but couldn’t get a crown on his own. And if you thinks that’s cool, that’s okay, and if you think his egotistical behavior is justified, then that’s okay too. But if you ever saw Pippen in his prime, I bet my money and the ranch that he would shut down Lebron James and make him his bitch. Scottie was an ice cold killer Assassin! A player with a defender’s mentality first and a powerful offensive punch that Jordan desperately needed to have, and expected to deliver, when the tough got going. And he did, Scottie Pippen was the man with the titles to prove it. 6 rings!

  10. ed - Aug 13, 2010 at 4:53 PM

If you really want to talk rings Bill Russell is the guy as he cannot wear his at one time on both hands.
King has become Queen as he moved to Wade’s team and bought Riley’s house and now they all live and dance together.

  11. escoDude - Aug 13, 2010 at 5:35 PM

you all are wrong, Lebron and Scottie are in the same league … neither one of them alone is a good finisher during the playoffs and as results have shown, neither one has been able to carry their team during the playoffs. LONG LIVE JORDAN

  12. Tony - Aug 13, 2010 at 6:19 PM

Rodman and “Sir Charles” are you kidding me !One fairy queen and one fat slob big mouth who wishes he had half the talent of LeBron You people of Cleveland better get over it!

  13. Walter_Bishop - Aug 13, 2010 at 6:43 PM

CuseFan ….You’re joking right? Lebron James is the God of the NBA, period. That loud mouthed raper, Kobe can’t tie Lebron’s sneakers. And, give Lebron a few more years, and everyone will be saying, “I wanta be like Lebron, Lebron, Be like Lebron, Lebron….” and Michael who???? I’m happy to see Lebron in Miami with Wade and Bosh. He’s finally has been given players to help him win his long overdue NBA Championship. Something he never had in the Mistake by the Lake! Those Bandwagon jumping fans in Cleveland will now have to fine something else to occupy their time, cause now that Lebron has flown the coup, they’;; never watch another Cavilier in their pitiful lives. I look for Lebron to win quite a few NBA Championships now, because Miami Heat have just become the NY Yankees of Basketball! GO Lebron!!!GO Miami!!!

  14. Chuck - Aug 13, 2010 at 6:50 PM

Look. Barkley was a good player as was Rodman. King James is a great player so whats all the trash talk about him. Let it go. I have no doubt those of you who choose to dish James will be the first to tune in to all the Heat games come basketball season so why not just shut up and enjoy the games. As you will I’m sure!!!!

  15. danny diaz - Aug 13, 2010 at 6:59 PM

Did you say learn from the guy who publicly came out and quit on his team. Hate to have BOSH as my leader. Then again leaders and saviors come cheap in the NBA!

  16. arsben dennis jennings - Aug 13, 2010 at 7:00 PM

i am sorry for saying scottie pitman it should of been pippen. yes i agree the game has changed somewhat since pippen jordan majic and bird but today i would pick lebron over any player out there playing the game. look at last season the cavaliers whipped the lakers everytime they played them during the regular season. i am old enough i literally saw every sunday wilt chamberlain and bill russell play for boston and (wilt)philadelphia and los angeles. no lebron is not in their league but he is way better than pippen jordan majic or bird. and you might laugh at that statement but twenty years from now lebron james will be listed above those men in basketball records skills and abilities. no one in this world knows whats going to happen in miami just keep breathing and keep your eyes open and we will see in october. lebron james is only 25 years old and he could play if he stays healthy for the next 10-15 years and finally you cant compare a punk sissy like kobe bryant with lebron james where do you come off at his numbers are in no way comparison to lebron.

  17. rockk49 - Aug 13, 2010 at 7:11 PM

Kobie-&L.A. are the champions until they are defeated , jordan, pippen and rodman has rings ,uh barkley and james zero until
    he wins then talk

  18. mick-7-1961 - Aug 13, 2010 at 7:32 PM

I don’t care how many rings a player has…I’m more concerned about how they got their rings. Pippen, as ‘good’ as he was, was made great by Michael Jordan…it’s arumentative, but in my opinion, no Michael Jordon, Scottie Pippen is an average player and those rings are just a dream. The point of my original post was agreeing with Lion Woods and calling Rodman what he is, a ‘tool’.

  19. flowerpot - Aug 13, 2010 at 7:55 PM

Most of you otherwise would not give an ounce of consideration to anything subject Rodman spoke on; but now all of a sudden he is an authority. There are far more current and former NBA players and officials with favorable views on Lebron’s talent and his move to Miami. No body has the right to get worked up over someone exercising their options.

  20. flowerpot - Aug 13, 2010 at 8:00 PM

You say Lebron has not been able to carry his team in the playoffs? Can you name one player on the finals team when Cleveland played San Antonio?

  21. luffy - Aug 13, 2010 at 8:51 PM

“And, give Lebron a few more years, and everyone will be saying, “I wanta be like Lebron, Lebron, Be like Lebron, Lebron….” and Michael who????
You are stupid to include MJ in the same sentence as LBJ, I’d agree with you if LBJ stayed in Cleveland and won a championship there maybe someday your statement would be true. But the move to Miami, he has lost all the greatness within him, he could win 10 rings but he’s always gonna be known as the great loser and quitter…
Now don’t start with me that he doesn’t have a good team or he feels he can’t win in Cleveland. The friggin team got the best record in the NBA for two consecutive years so if the you say that the team was not good, you really are an idiot…
Saw the comment, “why didn’t KG get hated when he left T-wolves?”
It’s pretty simple, the T-wolves really sucked after the good season where, KG became MVP and you can’t compare that team to the Cavs Roster…

  22. escoDude - Aug 13, 2010 at 8:55 PM

oh man do we have to remember sad times, actually happy times for me, when duncan, ginobili, parker swept lebron and company. my point is that lebron can carry a team during the season but come finals he chokes. he is not a clutch player so maybe he’ll fare better with wade who is a clutch player.

  23. Tina - Aug 13, 2010 at 9:59 PM

LeBron didn’t choke during the playoffs his so called team mates did. He can score 30 or 40 points but if nobody else is scoring …. he can’t do it all. Yall kill me talking about what he did or didn’t do. Obviously he did something he’s the MVP 2 years in a row. The man was a free agent and it was his right to go wherever he wanted to go. He doesn’t need Jordan, Barkley, Magic or any of them old heads to validate his decision. That man did what he felt was right for him which is no more than what we do for our own lives. As for Rodman…. YUCK… I’m sure LeBron could really give a F about his thoughts. Rodman can’t even keep up his child support ole ugly freak! He is nobody that LeBron needs to even waste his time on. Everyone acts like LeBron killed somebody….Kobe was accused of rape and no matter how great everyone seems to think he is…. he didn’t win not one of his championships by himself! I wish LeBron the best and that is what his true fans wish for him…. Stop with all the hate and negativity, isn’t there enough in the world already? Dang!!!

  24. Janet2010 - Aug 14, 2010 at 7:25 AM

    You are so right!

  25. Mike roarke - Aug 14, 2010 at 11:20 AM
