Dogpile! Now Dennis Rodman is slamming LeBron

Aug 13, 2010, 11:30 AM EST

First came The Decision, hungrily devoured by fans but widely panned by critics, including Charles Barkley. Then came The Decision II, in which LeBron James unwisely chose to play the basketball games at an Ohio carnival, and was roundly heckled. Then the unfortunate “Twitter Airing of Grievances.” And now this: When Dennis Rodman was asked on Thursday to compare Scottie Pippen to LeBron, The Worm did not pull any punches.

“People talk about LeBron,” said Rodman. “You’ve got to understand, LeBron has no business even being in the same conversation with Scottie. Scottie was the epitome of the (do it all elite player). What do you want me to say? Scottie was great.”

Not “Pippen was better than LeBron,” or “I give the edge to Scottie,” but “LeBron has no business even being in the same conversation with Scottie.” That’s going out of your way to make a point. Rodman made the remarks following an autograph session at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
LeBron’s poll numbers are dropping, by most accounts. An LA-based marketing poll has his “overexposed” number up 26 percent. Of course a lot of that will change if and when he starts winning in Miami. But for now, he needs to take a page from Tiger Woods’ book and drop out of sight for about a month.

Rodman: Don’t compare LeBron to Pippen [Bulls.com]

  1. Tony - Aug 14, 2010 at 11:45 AM

Everybody always talks about how great MJ was and he was, but to say Pippin was nothing without him just remember, MJ won no titles without Pippin! Kobe has won nothing by himself so why blame LeBron when he has a chance to play with D Wayde? It takes more than one great player to win a championship! If it wasn’t for Artest LA would have lost game 7 to Boston, Kobe stunk in that game!czen

  2. Jimee Johnson - Aug 14, 2010 at 1:00 PM

Most of the hate is consistent with the racists’ world view. As for Dennis Rodman: his character is undeniably pathetic, as in LOSER!

  3. 2late2matter - Aug 14, 2010 at 3:13 PM

Do the comments matter? Obviously not to you, but alot of ex-players who’ve “been there, done that” have the luxury of valence you and I do not.
How many ACTIVE players withold public comments is a fair question(?) Many of the retired players have been asked their opinions about the great LeBron and have voiced them.
Like it or not, LeBron James still has to earn his props! Good luck to him. Then he gets HIS bragging rights….

  4. 2late2matter - Aug 14, 2010 at 3:23 PM

Yeah, that Dennis Rodman that played in the PROFESSIONAL days of the NBA and won how many rings and Back-2-Back rebounding titles?
Diss his clothes or his tats but give him his basketball props and opinion, more respected than yours!

  5. Wayne - Aug 14, 2010 at 4:09 PM

Those 5 NBA Championship rings says that what he says matters! And he was a major factor in all five of them! The guy may be a little nuts but he’s earned some respect on the court!

  6. Wayne - Aug 14, 2010 at 4:11 PM

How many rings did Jordan win without Pippin?!!! Remember Jordan was “alone” for years before Pippin came along and didn’t win anything! Give the guy his due…they both NEEDED EACH OTHER!

  7. ocgunslinger - Aug 14, 2010 at 11:08 PM

    HUH….

  8. MDE - Aug 14, 2010 at 11:43 PM

Are you serious! The the 1st year Jordan retired, the first time, Pippen got the Bulls to the Conference Championship againt the New York Knicks. If wasn’t for a blowned call the Bulls would have played the Houston Rockets that year. Keep in mind Jordan did not win anything until Pippen came to the Bulls.

  9. Omnius - Aug 15, 2010 at 9:08 AM

Dennis Rodman knows that LeBoring James is nothing but the King of Choke. Only a fool would compare LeBoring James to Scottie Pippen or any truly great NBA Hall of Famer. But then the idiotic sports pundits have been doing that before the King of Choke ever shot a single NBA basket. I’m glad that LeBoring James is going down the tubes on popularity, he’s been overexposed and overhyped for far too long. Kobe Bryant is the greatest player in the NBA and the Repeat World Champion Lakers will Threepeat next June!

  10. Jason - Aug 15, 2010 at 4:05 PM

Don’t you dare compare what Lebron James did to what Tiger Woods did.Lebron James did nothing wrong. Lebron didn’t cheat on his wife and ruin his family’s life like Tiger did.All Lebron did was sign with another team. Any person that puts Tiger Woods and Lebron James in the same boat is a person who is mentally retarted.Lebron was taking advantage of ESPN’s coverage of his decision and he donated money during it.Lebron didn’t fool around with hookers and hos like Tiger did.I will bet all of my money that most of the people who hate Lebron are sad Cavalier fans who are bitter that they lost their king. To all of the people who put lebron and tiger in the same boat i say to you ‘kiss my ass jackhole’

  11. gianthinker - Aug 15, 2010 at 5:41 PM

Rodman’s comments ARE relevant because the last time I check he does have Championship rings. On top of that, Rodman should stop being judged for his off the court life and more for his on the court life where you’ll see him as the second best rebounder only after Bill Russell in NBA history. Rodman should be in the HOF.

  12. keith - Aug 16, 2010 at 5:57 AM

bare with me…not bear…that’s an animal. Another good use would also be bare ring fingers. this season will be a pr nightmare for LeBron…which should make for some good fun.

  13. gail - Aug 18, 2010 at 9:43 AM

Nice try, but he had it right with “bear.” That’s the correct word and the correct spelling….

  14. Leo - Aug 23, 2010 at 11:39 AM

I just want to know who is the King of Tatoos between Pippen and LeBron. We already know who has more rings.

  15. dee42 - Aug 23, 2010 at 11:14 PM

u know yo stuff i agree

  16. Stallion John - Aug 24, 2010 at 10:37 PM

It’s the punk a$$ way it did it that amazes me. Man needs a PR team bad.
As for Rodman – despite his lack of direction, mental focus, alcohol abuse, and long exercises before and after most of his games- he played with high energy( if not focus) every night and he was still one of the best defensive stoppers in NBA history. The onlt two men to see and understand his true capabilities were Chuck Daly and Phil Jackson. I don’t see Lefake ever scoring more than 10 points against Rodman in a matchup or more than 2 rebounds.
Also a correction to what Walter Bishop said -
“He’s finally has been given players to help him win his long overdue NBA Championship”
What you mean is -Wade has been given the bitches needed for more rings don’t you . After all who gave up their kingdom and moved?

  17. tfrazer - Aug 25, 2010 at 6:58 PM

yea, Rodman was right Lebron could handle it better than he did.

  18. PolarBear - Aug 26, 2010 at 4:18 PM

Rodman SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame. He did something neither Jordan or Pippen did: he won multiple championships with different teams. He was the greatest offensive rebounder I ever saw. He was a guy who could score five points but completely dominate the game with his defense, his rebounding, his getting in the opponents’ heads, his energy and leadership. One other thing: He’s the only player I ever saw where I noticed a difference between watching him on tv and watching him live. On tv he was fun, a great player. Live you could see the entire game revolved around him–moreso maybe when he played with the Pistons. Off court he was a total basket case. On court he was a genius.

  19. Polo from florida - Aug 28, 2010 at 4:11 AM

I can predicthow many games Cleveland cavaliers are going to win.Between 18 to 25 games. You people know that this team is sorry without LeBron that why you hate him so much. this team is not going to win 67 games. It would not have mattered if he did not do “The decision” you still would have hated the guy for leaving Cleveland. So stop lying to yourself. Let say it together without Lebron the Cavs sucks. See you at the NBA lottery.

  20. Polo From Florida - Aug 28, 2010 at 4:27 AM

Too bad for all the haters LeBron won’t be paying for your team.I am going to enjoy every minute of it, specially when Miami play the Cavs. I know the dunks, jump shots wil come with boos and Lebron will take it and make the Cavs look like a practice team.

  21. coach K - Sep 4, 2010 at 3:44 PM

Time will tell. As for as the number of rings…stay tuned. Horry has 7 rings…is he better than MJ? Folks need to stop hating on LeBron as he is what he is. His talent and contribution to the NBA is undeniable. So…let’s keep witnessing his talents and contributions and remember that he is primarily an athlete. As for as “The Decision” goes, I’m sure it was ESPN’s idea; I’m totally okay with it as LBJ had the 2+million donated to the Boys and Girls club.
