Roethlisberger now hails from fictitious home town

The Steelers press guide is out, and look; I see that Ben Roethlisberger is now listing his home town as Corey Rawson, Ohio. But a quick check of Google Maps reveals, well, blank space. There is no such place. Ben’s home town used to be Findlay, Ohio, — it was listed as such in the Steelers guide last season — but he decided to change it in similar fashion to Clark Kent picking Smallville, only sans rocket ship and with considerably more restroom groping. From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

In his Steelers biography, Roethlisberger now lists his birthplace as the fictitious and the incorrectly spelled Corey Rawson, Ohio. There is no such community, although he did attend Cory-Rawson School in Rawson, Ohio, before his junior high days.

Roethlisberger apparently made the change because he was displeased with unflattering comments made about him by some residents of hometown Findlay, Ohio, following a March incident in which he was accused of sexual assault. He was not charged, but drew a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

What unflattering comments would those be? From an April, 2010 article in the Toledo Blade:

But in this tight-knit, conservative community of about 37,000 people, a shared sense of disappointment and disbelief has spread among Findlay residents who watched Roethlisberger grow up and who became Steelers fans when Pittsburgh made him its first-round draft pick in 2004.

“I think he’s a stupid jerk,” said Tom Daley, a former neighbor of the Roethlisberger family on Woodley Terrace. Roethlisberger’s parents moved to Pittsburgh last summer.

Even Findlay’s mayor got into the act.

“The first one, you give him the benefit of the doubt,” Findlay Mayor Peter Sehnert said. “But then another one and now maybe another one after that? It’s not looking good. Something’s not right here.”

Although Mr. Sehnert acknowledges that Roethlisberger has not been criminally charged for his involvement with any of his accusers, the Findlay mayor said “It’s a little bit disheartening that he would at least put himself in that position.”

Wikipedia lists Roethlisberger’s birthplace as Lima, Ohio.
But he officially now lives in Corey Rawson, a hamlet located between Lake Wobegon and Smurf Village, where sexual assault is encouraged and motorcycle helmets are against the law, and the newspaper only prints good things about you. Oh, and there’s unlimited, free beef jerky.
