Buffy and Muffy ride again; Vince McMahon's wife has new Senate campaign ad

Aug 6, 2010, 1:20 PM EDT

Here’s a screen grab from the latest political ad by Linda McMahon, a Republican running for the U.S. Senate from Connecticut. As you can see, two MILFs are on their way to Bed, Bath & Beyond and to pass the time, begin discussing local politics. One declares that professional wresting “isn’t her cup of tea” (McMahon, of course, was until last year the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, and is the wife of Vince McMahon).
MILF No. 1: “It’s a soap opera.”
MILF No. 2: “Really.”
MILF No. 1: “Look, she tamed the traveling show world of professional wrestling, turned it into a global company and created 500 jobs here in Connecticut.”
MILF No. 2: “Right … so, think she can shake things up in Washington?”
MILF No. 1 and No. 2, together: “Oh, yeah!”
It didn’t take long for YouTube commenters to strike:

* Unfortunately, this stereotypical portrayal of ditsy, Stepford-wife, Connecticut housewives is surprisingly accurate. — jmpawluk

* Whoa, Buffy and Muffy ride again! The neck scarf, the eye makeup; what century is this? — veegeecee

* Hey Linda, last time I checked, if it were not for professional wrestling you and your husband would both be nobodies. There is no way in hell you would run for office because you have NO political experience. As far as business it was Vince who made WWE a success. He should not forget where he came from either. It was only with wrestling that Vince was able to succeed in any tangible way as he has failed at every other business venture without the WWE name on it. — stonedsour2097

Linda McMahon faces two opponents in the Aug. 10 Republican primary; Rob Simmons and Peter Schiff. The winner will meet incumbent state attorney general Richard Blumenthal in November’s general election. The above ad is an attempt to soften McMahon’s pro wrestling image and make her palatable to soccer moms and the PTA crowd. Um, not sure she achieved that.
McMahon is financing her campaign herself, and has a big edge in dollars spent. But her opponents have the edge in other areas. From SI.com:

Vince McMahon, chairman and CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, says his wife’s political opponents are taking unfair shots at his business to try to discredit her U.S. Senate candidacy.

In an interview with The Associated Press, McMahon says the wrestling empire’s detractors have taken snippets of footage out of context, such as a necrophilia scene and one in which a woman licks his shoes and barks like a dog.

Then there was the storyline in Wrestlemania X-Seven in which Linda, comatose and in a wheelchair, suddenly awakens and kicks Vince in the groin for having an affair.
That would have made for a much better commercial.
WOMAN No. 1: “Look, she’s presided over a business in which women lick men’s shoes and bark like a dog.”
WOMAN No. 2: “Right … and she’s proven adept at being inactive and comatose.”
WOMAN No. 1 : “So, think she can fit right in in Washington?”
WOMEN No. 1 and No. 2, together: “Oh, yeah!”
