Denis Leary appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show on Thursday, and somehow the conversation turned to how we’re raising our kids. Red meat for Leary, whose made a career out of noting how the human race basically sucks (ever hear The A**hole Song? Brilliant) (NSFW).
“We’ve raised a generation of kids where every time you play a sport or a game, you get a trophy. I don’t know if you were raised like that, but I wasn’t. Now it’s like, you suck, you get a trophy. Oh wait a minute, you’re fat and you suck? Here’s a special trophy. … I encourage my kids to have dreams and to achieve them, but I do also believe, like with the trophies, there are certain things parents are in charge of. Like this is the land of dreams, but if your dreams are stupid, we should cut them off at the knees.”
Then, his take on Abby Sunderland, the 16-year-old who had to be rescued when her boat was disabled in the Indian Ocean during an around-the-world sailing attempt.
Video following the jump.
I wonder what Leary would have said about someone who doesn’t know that the seasons are different in the southern hemisphere.
