* Springfield sabermetrics: Bill James to guest star on ‘Simpsons.’ Woo-hoo! On the Red Carpet reports that legendary baseball author Bill James will be among the celebrity voices featured on the upcoming season of “The Simpsons.” Considering these are two of my favorite things (James being more of a person than a “thing”), I’m looking forward to how they’ll involve James in the family’s misadventures around Springfield. * Tiger Woods tries his hardest to stir up Ryder Cup questions. On Wednesday at Firestone, Tiger was asked about the Ryder Cup. As you may know, Woods is currently ranked ninth in American points, meaning that if everything ended today, he would be out as an automatic pick to be on the United States team, and would then be subjected to one of four captain’s picks by Corey Pavin. Tiger was asked three times in a row about his thoughts on being a captain’s pick. Here is what Mr. Concrete replied. [Devil Ball Golf]
* Vuvuzelas banned from U.S. vs. Brazil match. On August 10, the U.S. team will play their first match since the World Cup in front of fans new and old at the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. A sold-out crowd is expected as American (and Brazil) supporters flock to see the team that delighted them in the World Cup, or, in Brazil’s case, a team moving on from disappointment. But while they try to recreate that World Cup atmosphere in the friendly match, they’ll have to do it without one polarizing instrument. Yes, like a number of Premier League grounds and many other places where people value their sanity and ability to hear, New Meadowlands Stadium has banned vuvuzelas. [Dirty Tackle]
* Eastern Washington Football Invents Tampax Turf. What’s black and white and red all over? A football game played on this. [Barking Carnival]
