Chael Sonnen is a former NCAA Div. I wrestler who was an alternate on the 2000 U.S. Olympic team, and these days rumbles in Mixed Martial Arts. He’s got a pretty big UFC middleweight title fight coming up with Anderson Silva, as a matter if fact; and decided that a few controversial remarks couldn’t hurt ticket sales. Not only did he take on Silva in a recent interview on MMA Radio, he decided that Lance Armstrong was fair game as well.
“Lance Armstrong did a number of things and he gave himself cancer,” Sonnen said on Pro MMA Radio, as transcribed by MMA Mania. “He cheated, he did drugs, and he gave himself cancer.”
Oh, and then he took on Micheal Phelps.
Sonnen:
“Well, instead of saying ‘Hey listen, I cheated and gave myself cancer, don’t be like me,’ he actually made himself the victim and then went out and profited something like $15 million from this ‘Hey, poor me, let’s find a cure for cancer’ campaign instead of just coming clean and saying, ‘Look, here’s what I did, I screwed myself up, and I hope people learn from my mistakes.’ “
Sonnen was answering a question about the type of people who bother him, and he seemed to be suggesting that Armstrong is the same kind of phony that Sonnen says Silva, the UFC middleweight champion, is. For good measure, Sonnen threw in that he thinks Michael Phelps is a “pothead” as well, and Sonnen generally seems to think that he deserves to be considered America’s one authentic sports star.
That’s a special kind of crazy, and you know what that means. Politics! Yep, Sonnen won the recent Republican primary for the race for a seat in the Oregon State House of Representatives, but had to pull out of the general election due to questions about a real estate deal.
And above all, he is humble:
Mr. Sonnen, you’re making it very hard for anyone to root for you here.

Sonnen is a Good MMA fighter, he might even beat the spider. He should let his actions/fighting do the talking for first, then if hes the champ, act like a champ. Cancer is not something to speculate on use as a promotional tool for a upcoming fight, Whats next talking crap about women with breast cancer deserve it because they ate the wrong food or men with prostate cancer should eat more lettuce? Sonnen people tune into you to watch you fight, be careful what you say…

the type of doping armstrong is accused of doing isnt even steroids. blood doping doesnt cause cancer. it can cause you to die if you dont keep up a certain level of activity after you do put the extra blood in though.

growth hormone is a known cause of cancer. Medical procedures are careful to restrict it’s use to people with no pre-cancers for instance.
