Was Troy Aikman wasted when he announced he would be on Dancing With the Stars?

Jul 29, 2010, 1:30 PM EST

First he said he would. Now he says he won’t. What will Troy Aikman say tomorrow about being a contestant on Dancing With the Stars? On Wednesday the former Cowboys quarterback announced to TMZ that he would take a sabbatical from being tormented by Joe Buck on live television to appear on the hoofing reality show. But today, he wrote on Twitter that, nope, he won’t be appearing on that show. Meanwhile, according to Zimbio.com, Aikman may have been plastered when he originally told reporters that he would be on the show. From Zimbio:

Last night, as he staggered out of Red O in Los Angles, former Dallas Cowboy Troy Aikman dropped a bomb on waiting paparazzi. Drunkenly greeting the group of flashing cameras, he announced that he will be a contestant on the next season of Dancing With The Stars.

Yes, the former football oaf says that his spot on the Dancing roster is officially confirmed. However, today people are wondering if his big announcement wasn’t just a booze-drenched lie, or a desperate attempt to make headlines.

And voila; today, via Twitter (as seen via Pro Football Talk), Aikman said he will not in fact be appearing on DWTS. Apparently it conflicts with his American Idol duties. Which he would have known last night. So what gives? Was it the booze talking, as Zimbio suggests? Or the result of a number of concussions? Or neither?
Original story from TMZ:

Following in the rhinestone capezios of his former Dallas Cowboys teammate Emmitt Smith — legendary QB Troy Aikman told us last night that he’s officially on board for the next season of “Dancing with the Stars.” It’s pretty unusual for a celeb to spill the beans before ABC makes its official announcement so if he was being serious, there might be some hell to pay down the line.

Too bad; it could have added a new dynamic to this program that I will never watch. To my knowledge the only former quarterbacks who have appeared on the show are ESPN personality Kenny Mayne, who didn’t really count because he never made it to the NFL and has two ruined ankles (though he WAS in front of Randall Cunningham on the University of Nevada depth chart for some reason), and former Giants QB Jesse Palmer, who doesn’t really count because he was on The Bachelor and that basically makes you as reputable of a person as Carrot Top.
Would Aikman’s quarterback feet have translated to the dance floor? Maybe. Would his skin color have ensured his eventual failure? Yes.

What a stupid, crass comment. Reverse stereotyping is okay? TMZ is right. By the way, I am pretty sure Donny Osmond is white.
