Fan wears LeBron Heat jersey to Indians game, with predictable results

Jul 29, 2010, 10:00 AM EDT

When this guy woke up Wednesday morning and decided “I think I’ll wear my new LeBron James Miami Heat Jersey to the Indians game,” was it the worst decision of all time, or just of this year? Before you make your choice, please see the video following the jump, in which Mr. Heat Jersey is escorted out of the stadium by cops while receiving a shower of abuse from Clevelanders. The guy and his girlfriend were “escorted” from Progressive Field for their own safety, but really they were kicked out, judging from the girlfriend’s reaction (see video No. 3, where she flips the bird at the throng).
Great thing about that; among the people screaming at him are folks wearing Yankees and Pirates shirts. Old animosities are forgotten in the face of this new menace.
Video following the jump.

WARNING: Lots of NSFW language. As one might expect.

As he left, some fans followed him toward the gate with more derisive chants. Various media reports indicated he was with a female companion, and that fans also threw debris at them.

More video evidence of the abuse, via 64 And Counting, which was at the game:

His girlfriend, bedecked in a Grady Sizemore jersey and Indians gear by the way, seemed to be more upset than he was. By the time she was outside, she was in tears and screaming at the cops.

i think fans of the right to wear any jerseys to games even if the player is hated in state because cleveland need to grow up every so faster because are a loser city thatcan not never win a title in all sports while in miami they can win a championship and nba because they get one 2006 so they can do it this year while cave will go and lose all their games.

I understand that fans can get upset, but shoot, its a free country last I checked. Maybe this guy doesn’t like the Cavs, but loves the Indians. Maybe he’s he’s a Lebron fan and not so much a Cavs fan, or possibly been a Heat fan for a long time; but the surrounding fans only care that they were insulted by someone bringing the painful memory around them. Would it be better 2 weeks from now? 2 Months? 2 Years?
I don’t cry when a Yankee fan gave me for several years (and could arguably done it for decades) of taunting ‘when when was the last time the Red Sox won a WS’ (until LATE 2004 of course!) But Cleveland fans are apparently more passionate and deserve more rights than us BoSox fans, right? Why didn’t all the fans that were cussing get escorted out? It might have been a lot of work, but it would have been fair.

First, learn to write English YOU IGNORANT piece of crap! Where are you from?! Cave? You mean to write Cavs – dummy! I don;t have time to point out all your grammar mistakes… anyways, there is a little thng called freedom of speak, but also when you are a true FAN you will understand that when LeBron left – he left his home state down! Look up the history of Cleveland and comment back all the Ohio teams that do well you stupid idiot who wrote this comment! CLEVELAND FANS RULE! GO TRIBE (that’s what we call the Cleveland Indians for that stupid idiot that wrote that comment that you can not even read because the grammar is so BAD) and GO CAVS!!!!

  4. Erik - Jul 29, 2010 at 11:31 AM

So they remove him from the stadium because of the behavior of other fans?
Put him in a luxury box, give him an Indians jersey and move him to the other side of the stadium. You can’t punish a guy and his girlfriend just trying to enjoy the game for the stadium full of bitter fans behavior.
Was it antagonistic to wear that jersey to the game? Perhaps, or maybe unlike most of Cleveland this kid actually appreciates what LeBron did for his city and the Cavs franchise.

  5. RB - Jul 29, 2010 at 12:53 PM

He is free to wear whatever he wants..and the fans are free to say whatever they want. He wanted to evoke a confrontation and he got it..

  6. deke - Jul 29, 2010 at 12:53 PM

Unless this guy is a complete idiot he knew what kind of reaction he would get showing up in tat jersey. He was looking for the reaction he got and probably enjoyed his 20 seconds of fame. Feel bad for the girlfriends poor choice in guys… This ones obviously a tool!!

  7. Paul in KY - Jul 29, 2010 at 1:17 PM

Man, I’ve been to Cleveland on numerous times. Like the city & people generally. This guy was sorta wacko for wearing the jersey (at this point in time). I think he should have gone for the ‘Full Monty’ & also worn an Art Modell mask.

  8. Really? - Jul 29, 2010 at 2:30 PM

First off, he was wearing a basketball jersey at a baseball game. This guy did this INTENTIONALLY. He was holding his jersey away from his body and flaunting it in the face of the fans. What did he expect? Stupid is as stupid does.
Cleveland is not upset LBJ left you idiots. We are upset with how he did it, quit playing in the payoffs, his “sore” elbow. Oh he is “King” of quitting, backstabbing, and has the mental capacity of my left Big toe.
I’d like to apologize to my left toe.

This guy new exactly what he was doing. He was looking for trouble and he got it.I don’t care what his rights are, he’s stupid. If this happend in some cities, they would have torn it off him.

  10. Chris - Jul 29, 2010 at 4:09 PM

Thing is, I’m from Philly. You should go to a Cowboys vs Eagles game in Philly sometime. If you wear a Cowboys hat, jersey, anything, you will get completely harassed more than this kid did. Its ridiculous. Lebron is just bringing in the Philly out of Cleveland fans. It is what it is.

  11. Matt - Jul 29, 2010 at 4:17 PM

I lived in Cleveland for several years. I have never seen so much negativity at the ballpark. I am an A’s fan (grew up there) and wore an A’s hat to a game back in ’89 and was accosted by seemingly everyone in the stadium! I have been to over a dozen other ballparks in my life while rooting for my favorite team, and have NEVER felt unwelcome anywhere else. Must be something in the water up there.

  12. JK - Jul 29, 2010 at 4:31 PM

Ahhhh Cleveland, at least you’re not Detroit.

Our passion for our city is extremely wonderful. I was at that game and I felt the same way everyone else felt. He wanted to get a reaction and he got it. Stupid move because he waisted his money on a ticket, but he did make sportscenter. Lebron is a bum and for all u other bums who still like him, now u know what u will get if u come into our city and try to disrespect us. I love Cleveland and the history of our sports is what make us the best fans in this country. Go browns, go Indians and go cavs!!!!!! Plus I’m happy to see what Boobie Gibson can really do when he is the face of this franchise. Mo, keep ballin. Moon do the damn thing and Parker shoot the lights out. We got a great squad Cleveland rather u like to belive it or not.

  14. LoveAllClevelandTeams - Jul 29, 2010 at 5:44 PM

We don’t have “cave” in our city…and good luck with that spelling and getting the english language right. You might want to have someone translate or type for you.

  15. dekesa - Jul 29, 2010 at 10:45 PM

It doesn’t matter. I would have wore the damn jersey just to get under the skin of those inbred Cleveland fans and I HATE lebron. But what I hate more is having my constitutional rights taken away from me. I would have at least knocked out one of those fat ass rentacops. **** THE CITY OF CLEVELAND. Bunch of bitter *******. That’s what happens when a team gets a great player, lebron made the cavs at least have a hope. Now its just over with, no wonder people were at that Indians game. No need to save up their unemployment checks for cavs games, their season is a WRAP.

  16. sum 1 who knows - Jul 30, 2010 at 12:47 PM

I know who this guy is have for years. He knew exactly what he was doing because he is a stupid jerk. He wanted someone to punch him so he could cry like the little b**** he is.

  17. mike - Jul 30, 2010 at 2:37 PM

Well, any sympathy I had for Cleveland fans just evaporated. What trash.

  18. Freedom for All - Jul 30, 2010 at 9:53 PM

Cleveland Fans… CAVEMAN, LOSERS, go to play BINGO the only thing you can WIN in your life…

  20. Yankee fan - Jul 30, 2010 at 11:33 PM

I’m sorry but if NYers can put up with Boston fans wearing their stuff, Cleveland fans can too. Cleveland just needs to suck it up! Yeah, he was probably looking for a reaction, but no more than any fan is when they wear their team loud and proud in an area where they know people are going to say something. As for him wearing a basketball jersey to a baseball game… you see it all around Cleveland. Indians hats at the Browns game; Browns hat at the Indians game; Indians hat & Browns t-shirt at a Cavs game. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. Just like the few guys in the videos that were wearing Pirates stuff… what’s that? Last time I checked though, it was his constitutional right to wear what he wanted to that game.

  21. John Sanson - Jul 31, 2010 at 12:08 AM

Wow J- co-or-mi-oh English teacher you wanted to correct someone on their grammar and you can even write. Lets evaluate your sentence structure.
I don;t (Don’t) have time to point out all your grammar mistakes… anyways, there is a little thng (Thing) called freedom of speak (Speech), but also when you are a true FAN you will understand that when LeBron left – he left (I assume you wanted to say Let) his home state down!
If you check the parenthesis you will see you are very dumb. To the point were you don’t need to call anyone on their grammar. You look worse than the man you commented about.
Also Cleaveland does suck at athletics. YOU have never had a team worth a damn except the Indians in 1920 that only got to the series because of the black sox scandal. YOU SUCK for REAL no excuses. SORRY!!

  22. LoveAllClevelandTeams - Jul 31, 2010 at 7:43 AM

ouch…”those in glass houses…” How about self-evaluation: your first sentence…did you mean he can write, or he can’t…I’m confused by all the stupid people out there who really can’t write, but you can’t cure stupid now can you?! But, enough about you and the other stupid people, Cleveland will rise from the ashes!! GO TRIBE, GO CAVS, GO BROWNS!

  23. LMAO@urstupidity - Jul 31, 2010 at 8:55 AM

Ummmm…..If you’re the grammar police, then the city is worst off then we thought!! Lebron has the right to make any decision he wants about HIS career! GEESH!! Stop acting stupid people!! One man can’t save a city!!!!

  24. YouJustDontGetIt - Aug 14, 2010 at 2:24 PM

Seriously people. It wasn’t free speech that got him ejected. It was for everyone’s protection. He was literally inciting a riot with that jersey. The crowd followed him wherever he went. Moving him or making him change shirts wouldn’t solve a thing.
