You mean this photo is real? Yikes

Jul 28, 2010, 3:45 PM EDT

When I first saw this photo a couple of days ago, I immediately called shenanigans, then declared Photoshop, then I had a Saltine cracker and took a nap. But now video has surfaced (get it?) of the incident, which I now know was completely real. Holy crap.
Apparently angered that Paul the Psychic Octopus has been getting so many death threats lately, this 40-ton southern right whale decided to beach itself on a yacht owned by Ralph Mothes, 59, seen in this photo wondering what it’s like to be killed by sushi. Teen sailor Abby Sunderland please note: The 30ft-long whale slammed into the deck, snapped the steel mast like a twig and crushed the coach roof and side rigging. And you can’t do anything about it, either, because they’re an endangered species.
Brace for impact. Video following the jump.

From the London Daily Mail:

A tourist from Botswana who was aboard a nearby sightseeing boat captured the before and after shot.

Said Mothes:

“There were bits of skin and blubber left behind, and the mast was wrecked. It brought down the rigging too.”

Just like a Charles Barkley yacht party.
