From an interview with LSU football coach Les Miles on Nashville radio 104.5 The Zone, with host Clay Travis. Miles appears absolutely baffled when asked about the Gulf Oil Spill and its effects on the region. You do coach and live in Louisiana, right, Les? The transcript, courtesy of SportsbyBrooks:
“Well, it uh, the impact is more of a … you know … anything, anything along the … the uh … the … shore and those issues are very serious issues and there … the impact is on the … the uh (long pause) you know, what is, the natural resource of our country, uh, but ah … I don’t know that it’s, I don’t know exactly, uh, to what extent it’s being handled well and managed or mismanaged I have no idea.
“The only thing I know is it’s very sincere and it’s, it’s uh, it affects more than Louisiana and it affects (muffled pause) … the ocean.”
I asked Travis about the interview Thursday night.
“I actually asked that question at SEC spring meetings in the beginning of June,” Travis said. “I was in Destin so I didn’t actually listen to the audio until this past week. Then we started running it as a mix between Les and Miss South Carolina. So at the time of the question it was at the absolute height of the oil spill. Plus, I’d seen stories about Miles going out to look at the damage. So I assumed he’d be prepared for the question.”
