Giants' Triple-A team mocks Don Mattingly with 'Rule 8.06 Night'
Jul 22, 2010, 1:00 PM EDT
Don Mattingly’s two-for-one mound visit during the Dodgers-Giants game in LA on Tuesday is already the stuff of legend. The controversy is still bubbling, actually, after Major League Baseball issued a statement today saying that the umpires’ interpretation of the rule was wrong. The umpires then said that they disagree with MLB. Fun!
But more fun still is what the Fresno Grizzlies are doing tonight for their game with the visiting Salt Lake Bees. The Grizzlies have declared it “Rule 8.06 Night” in honor of the rule that got Dodgers reliever Jonathan Broxton removed from Tuesday’s game, leading to a 7-5 comeback win for the Giants.
From the Grizzlies’ site:
On Rule 8.06 Night this Thursday, the Grizzlies will be rewarding their fans instead of punishing them for a second visit. Any fan who purchases a ticket to Thursday’s game (first visit), then makes a return trip to the box office that night (second visit), bringing his or her game ticket back to the window and mentioning Rule 8.06, will receive a free ticket to either the Tuesday, July 27 or Wednesday, July 28 home games against the Tacoma Rainiers.
Oh, snap.
Meanwhile, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene of South Carolina is none too amused by the bobblehead doll that was given out by the Charelston RiverDogs this past Saturday. From the Charleston City Paper:
The first 1,000 fans to attend Saturday night’s Charleston Riverdogs game against the Augusta Green Jackets will get a homemade Alvin Greene bobblehead doll. The original plan was to let fans decide whose picture got pasted on the golden statues formerly called “Mr. Lady Liberty”.

Greene has stated that he would create jobs by employing people to make action figures of him. But, this particular project is the work of Riverdogs interns who spent hours cutting out Greene’s photo.
Greene complained about the bobblehead to the Charleston Post & Courier:
“They look tacky,” Greene said Friday. “That wasn’t a good enough effort. They should have made something more original. If they’re going to do it, do it right.”
Many have claimed that Greene’s candidacy is some sort of fraud or Republican trickery. A virtual unknown, he won the South Carolina Democratic primary with almost no campaign spending or promotion; and in fact didn’t even have a campaign headquarters.
