Despite a huge divorce settlement payout and a $22 million ding on endorsements due to, um, personal transgressions, Tiger Woods still emerged victorious in Sports Illustrated’s annual “Fortunate 50″ moneymaking list. According to SI, Tiger earned $90,508,163 in salary, winnings, endorsements and appearance fees. That’s $9 million less than last year, but still nearly $30 million more than his nearest competitor, Phil Mickelson.
Meanwhile, Business Insider is reporting that Tiger lost $22 million in endorsements this year (um … ouch?).
But, as the AP points out, if you look back at his 2009 numbers, you can see that Tiger’s endorsement deals have gone down from $92 million to $70 million.
That’s a decline of $22 million! Some of the sponsors he’s lost include Gatorade, AT&T, and Accenture. (At least he still has Nike.)
No. 3 on the “Fortunate 50″ money list? Perhaps Floyd Mayweather Jr. could have usurped Tiget atop the big money pile if he had agreed to fight Manny Pacquiao earlier this year. Even without that megafight, Floyd earned $60,250,000. Most of that is from fights with Juan Manuel Marquez and, most significantly, Shane Mosley. With that kind of loot he can duck Pacquiao forever.
Here’s the remainder of the top 10: LeBron James, Alex Rodriguez, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant (Shaq makes more than Kobe?), Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning and Dywane Wade.
No. 11 (drum roll) … Matt Stafford. What a country. Full list here.
