Brady Quinn wins the 2005 Heisman! The DeStalinization … er, DeBushification, of USC’s Heritage Hall officially began today, as Reggie Bush’s Heisman trophy was banned from the premises by USC president-elect Max Nikias. I hope I don’t need to go into the background of all of this; suffice it to say that the NCAA recently ordered USC to disassociate itself with Bush, and former basketball star O.J. Mayo, as part of its athletic sanctions against the school. It all means that Bush was stripped of his Heisman by the NCAA for accepting improper benefits while at USC. In a press release issued by Nikias and reported by the USC School of Journalism, Nikias says:
“I have instructed the senior vice president for administration to remove athletic jerseys and murals displayed in recognition of O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush by mid-August — before the incoming class of students moves on campus — from Heritage Hall, the Galen Center, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
From SportsbyBrooks:
Nikias also said Reggie Bush’s 2005 Heisman Trophy will be revoked and returned to the Heisman Trophy Trust in August.
So who is the 2005 Heisman winner? Young is already on record as saying that he would not accept the trophy (even though many contend he should have been the rightful winner on the first place). Third-place finisher Matt Leinart would likely have nothing to do with it, seeing that Bush was his teammate. So, that leaves the fourth-place guy …
Brady Quinn: (unfolds worn sheet of paper) “I have so many people I’d like to thank …”
