I was supposed to have a one-on-one phone interview with Ron Artest on Sunday, but he had a bunch of meetings that ran late so I’ll have to do a part 3 of this series for Tuesday. I have a lot of stuff to talk about for that one so I think it should be pretty good. In the meantime here’s a video of me talking with Artest on Thursday during the Queensbridge celebration, before the concert. Ron talks about how he’s afraid to wear his NBA Championship ring because if he puts it on, “I’m afraid I’ll never win another one.” He wants to give this ring to his wife, and win another one so he can auction it off to help fund a couple of charity projects he has in the works.
The best part of this chat is Ron explaining the importance of his Queensbridge homecoming, and how he thinks it’s important to be an inspiration for kids because “The world is in a bad place right now.” Oh, and we also talk about Justin Bieber.
Video following the jump.
Audio can be hard to hear in spots so turn it up.
Artest:
“My Twitter is pretty entertaining, if you have a sense of humor. … My ring, yeah, I’m not going to put it on. I’m almost afraid that if I put it on, I won’t be hungry no more, and I won’t win another one.”
When told Justin Bieber gave him a shout-out on Twitter.
“He did? I met Justin one time; I didn’t know he was such a fan of basketball. I think Justin’s amazing; now that I know he likes the Lakers that’s great, so I’m a big Justin Bieber fan.”
