Choking the ref was wrong? Should I not have done that?

Jul 19, 2010, 3:50 PM EDT

So here’s a sure way to avoid getting a yellow card. As the ref is about to fish it out of his pocket, charge him and put him in a sleeper hold. Of course, what it does result in is a red card. But technically, you’ve bypassed that pesky yellow.
This incident has also produced my favorite Spanish-language headline of the day so far. From Globo Esporte: Juiz estrangulado no Chile.
This was a Chilean second division match between the Rangers and Deportes Concepcion on Saturday, and the ref is Marcelo Miranda. The choker is Rangers defender Jose Pedrozo.
Notice how it takes three of Pedrozo’s teammates to take him down when he tries to charge the ref a second time. Odd. Usually a light tap on the shin will knock the typical soccer player to the turf, right?

Anything less than a lifetime ban is a travesty.

Not to be picky but “Juiz estrangulado no Chile” is Brazilian Portuguese, not Spanish.

This is why America will never win the world cup…there are no riot police at our soccer matches…we don’t need them.

    Touche! Great stuff.

Missing the best part of this video. Riot police come on the field and the other players still continue to pursue the ref. Shouldn’t RIOT POLICE send some kind of signal to stop? Why should a cop have to back down while soccer players continue to challenge them? Crank them with a stick or something.

You’re not being picky at all. Thanks for the correction.

Haha. I love how “grammer police” is spelled wrong. Try “Grammar Police.” I love when people try to correct others, when they can’t even spell something correctly.
