Barkley: LeBron decision show was a 'national nightmare'

Jul 13, 2010, 10:00 AM EST

What I really would have liked to have heard was Charles Barkley’s opinion on Jesse Jackson’s “slave owner” comments by Cavaliers’ owner Dan Gilbert. But this will have to do. Speaking to Comcast Sports Net on Monday, The Round Mound of Quotes ripped ESPN and James for The Decision show, and then went into a very entertaining riff about the worth of the NBA, and sports in general.

“This has been like the national nightmare. I’ve never been so mad and disappointed in the NBA overall. Number one, they already had this deal done. It’s coming out now. Instead of meeting with all these teams. They already had it done.”

But the best part was Chuckster listing the “only five real jobs in the world.” No, sports blogger isn’t among them.
Video following the jump.

Barkley:

“LeBron should have told the Cavaliers in advance. And Dan Gilbert clearly screwed up, because you can’t say all that stuff. Because he got LeBron off the hook. If Dan Gilbert had just said thank you, and blah blah blah… [Instead] he made look LeBron like a better guy.

“A lot of these guys take themselves a little bit too serious. Let’s see, a teacher, policeman, fireman, doctor, and somebody who’s in the service. I truly believe those are the only five real jobs in the world. Everybody else should just shut the hell up and enjoy life. There’s five legitimate jobs in life.

“It’s an honor and a blessing to play a sport for a living, but come on man. Listen, do we make things better … if someone’s having bad day or a city’s having a tough time? Of course. But you can’t think you’re the greatest thing in the world if you play a sport — you got to keep it all in perspective.”

Five legitimate jobs that Barkley missed:

Garbage collector. Try living without them for a month and see what happens.

Truck driver. Food at your local Taco Bell would only last five days, tops, without resupply. If it’s Barkley’s local Taco Bell, make that five hours.

Animal control officer. Left to their own devices, stray dogs would eventually rise up, conquer humans.

ESPN makeup person. Imagine Chris Berman on the air in his sweaty, natural state; combover in disarray, dark circles under his eyes from the previous night’s debauchery. Talk about your national nightmare …

Pizza delivery guy. This should have been listed first.

I use to respect Charles Barkley , Magic Johnson ,Bryon Scott and other black players. Now, I have no respect for any off them because they should have came out like Jessie Jackson and denounced Dan Gilbert for his racist remarks.Lebron James is a individual he did not have to do anything different than what he did. They are stilled employed by the NBA and are afraid to stand up like men.People should stop trying to tell Lebron how to live his life.He has not committed any crimes. He fulfilled his contract and moved on. for shoppers

Charles was the only honest analyst in the booth when he questioned LeBrons desire to be part of a winning team.
Charles is also the ONLY player in professional sports to tell kids that he himself should be no child’s hero! Barkley is also one of the few non-political celebrities who acknowledge teachers and the work we do. Thank you Charles.

It was not a raise you doofus…..it was LESS money.
It was not a promotion……..it was a demotion to share the stage.
Don’t try to compare apples and oranges, you don’t have the brain for it.
IF, however, he left for the sole reason of earning a ring, (legitimate career goal) then explain his quitting when he had his “beloved hometown” team 2 wins from the title game. I tivo’d those games and any way you look at it……he QUIT!

donald all i can say is STFU, i cant stand how morons like you and jesse (i need my 5 minutes of fame) jackson, keep playing the rascist card…yes i am black and to be blunt i found nothing of what gilbert said to be rascist and where did jesse get off equating the statement to slavery, yes leboring does have a right to go where he wants but he did owe the cavs a certian amount of respect for doing everything they possibly could to give legone anything he wanted, its not the cavs fault lebrick QUIT in the playoffs the last 2 years, he should have been upfront and honest about his leaving, which id guarantee was palnned 2 years ago, leborings ego and image are tarnished forever, hope hes happy being wade’s sidekick with bosh thier puppy dog.

Your either too young to know anything OTHER than Kobe and LeDope -
or too young to know anything OTHER than Kobe and LeDope – AND completely uninformed.
    Yep – Charles is -
    Overexposed
    OverOpinionated
    OverlyLoud
    OverlyObnoxious
    OverlyFrank
    OverlyRotund
    and
    OverlyDisasterous ( occasionally on TV)
    BUT he’s NOT-
    OverlyIgnorant of the facts
Overly Insensitive to paying respect to your teammates
    (even former ones)
OverlyLeaderless -as Lebrons Mom and Friends failed him here
and HE IS NOT OVERRATED – he was vertically challenged at his position and he is still UNDERRATED given some of the players he fought it out with at his position.
Turk – That leaves you Mis- informed and UN- important.
