'Double Rainbow Guy' is an MMA fighter? Awesome

Jul 13, 2010, 12:00 PM EDT

Aside from being a cautionary tale about eating certain wild mushrooms while camping, the viral video “Giant Double Rainbow” is a glorious celebration of the outdoors and of God’s wonders. (Favorite part: Near the end, when he sobs “What does it mean?” Here it is, in case you’re on of the three people who hasn’t seen it. It was posted by someone called Yosemitebear, or hungrybear9562, who is actually Paul Vasquez, a former MMA fighter.
Following the jump, a video of one if his fights, via The Score.

From Pro MMA Now:

Paul “Hungry Bear” Vasquez, is actually a former professional mixed martial arts fighter. His stats have him weighing 365 lbs. and standing 6 ft. 3 in. tall. In Nov. 2005 he fought fellow super heavyweight Ross Clifton at “Gladiator Challenge 45: Tribal War” at the Eagle Mountain Casino in Porterville, Calif. Unfortunately for him, Vasquez was defeated by Clifton via keylock submission in the first round.

MMA fans will remember Clifton as the 6 ft. 8 in., 360 lb. fighter Ken Shamrock submitted via armbar at the War Gods Valentine’s Day Massacre show in Feb. 2009 (Shamrock tested positive for steroids). Clifton passed away in September of last year from a heart attack.

Actually that weight was 100 pounds off; Vasquez fought at 465 pounds before retiring and losing 200 pounds. He still lives near Yosemite with his girlfriend (pictured), and has two sons by a previous marriage. Check out his Counchsurfing page here.
He even showed up in the Jimmy Kimmel audience a while back.
