Want to be in 'Moneyball' with Brad Pitt? Sign up here

Jul 12, 2010, 2:30 PM EST

So Columbia Pictures is finally getting around to filming Moneyball, the story of a robot boy and how he learned to adapt to the real world. And by that I mean Oakland A’s GM Billy Beane and sabermatics. Based on Michael Lewis’ book that was tragically derailed last year when Steven Soderbergh rewrote the script in comic sans font, it was resurrected when Steve Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin did another draft, and now that baby’s set for production. My movie career is saved! Oh, did I mention I’m going to be in it? I’ll be playing the guy eating the frosty malt in Section 208 on the third-base side.
They’re looking for other extras as well, because I can only fill one seat; three if I lay flat (which often happens). Filming at the ballpark begins July 26 and runs through early August, but not all in one take. It’s an Oakland Coliseum Out of Bounds Pants Party! From Be In A Movie.com:

We can only invite 300 people to set each day… that’s it. Then production will use computer generated images (CGI) of us to make it look like a full stadium. That means you need to act, look and have the energy of 30,000 fans that would have actually been at these games.

Three hundred fans each day? Just like a real A’s game!

Our scenes, the one’s we’re in, are the recreations of actual baseball games played during the Oakland A’s historic 20 game win streak in 2002. We want your energy, excitement, and passion for these scenes. Whether you like baseball or not, with all these stars, we know its going to be a great time.

That also means your mug may be on screen multiple times.

These are not paid extra positions but it is a great way to experience a day on a real movie set with all the stars and see the industry from the inside out. Plus its all FREE!

Here’s where to sign up.
I never pictured spending a day in the hot sun with Jonah Hill as a plus, but this may be fun to write about, so I’m in. Oh yeah, Hill plays Paul DePodesta in this straight to video sure Oscar winner. And, this just in:

Kathryn Morris has been called up to the big leagues. The former ‘Cold Case’ star is reportedly in talks to join Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Stephen Bishop in ‘Moneyball,’ about Oakland Athletics GM Billy Beane (Pitt). If cast, Morris would play Pitt’s second wife, a diehard baseball fan. Bennett Miller (‘Capote’) directs.

My opinion: Not even casting Al Davis as a Sith Lord could save this thing. But, free food! Think they’d mind if I wore my Get off my Mound t-shirt?

  9. Ron Selak - Jul 20, 2010 at 6:54 PM

Ex-professional baseball pitcher with 6 years of experience and 4 years at the AAA level. Would love to get some extra time as well as onfield time hitting fungos to the infielders, shagging flyballs in the outfield during BP, or running the pitchers from line-to-lines before the game. I’ve still got the “look” as a baseball player and would fit in nicely.

I am a big time A’s fan. I remember the 20 game win streak like it was only yesterday. The days of Tejada, Mulder, Zito, Huddy, Hatteberg, TLong, Dye, Ellis and Chavy bring back good memories. I would love to be an extra in the movie if possible. Would love to play as the left field bleacher drummers!!! Let’s go Oakland.
