State of Tennessee to Kyle Turley: 'Hey! Keep it down!'

Jul 12, 2010, 12:30 PM EDT

Former NFL offensive tackle Kyle Turley has been smashing heads in a different way now that his NFL career’s come to an end; and that’s with his hard-rockin’ country-metal band. Apparently there are actually fans for this sort of thing, and most of them aren’t there for the irony! Turley and his motley band of music makers were holding one of their country-metal musical gatherings, which I assume means they perform Tennessee Williams standards while one of them bangs garbage can lids, when someone decided to report them for a noise violation that shut down the show. And just when the crowd was finally getting used to the ringing in their ears. From Gridiron Records:

Kyle Turley and his band were shut down for being too loud at last night’s show in Franklin, TN. We don’t know if anyone actually complained about the noise or the rowdy crowd since Franklin officials have made it clear that LIVE music is no longer welcome in their community.

Video following the jump.

Yes, the Turley crowd was out in full force, and yes, since they are made up of Metal and Country fans — it got wild. And yes, the music was loud — like it’s supposed to be. But that’s not why the cops showed up. The truth is that if Franklin, TN supported Country music and venues that host live shows, Kyle’s band, and even more traditional acts would be able to play for their fans. Well thanks, Franklin, for frowning on Country music … in the capitol of Country music. Who are the people making these rules anyway? Are they the same people who want to ban us all from saying “Merry Christmas” lest it offend someone?

Maybe next time they can go with my idea; acoustic metal concerts. The music’ll be soft but the looks of constipation on the musicians’ faces will be as real as ever. And isn’t that what all of the fans are coming to see anyway? There’s no way people actually enjoy having their eardrums pulverized with ten thousand decibels of indiscernible power chords, right? There’s a reason they call those concerts ‘penance parties’. Okay, they don’t, but they should. So anyway, Turley tried to perform extremely loud live music in an area that has said they don’t welcome live music in their community anymore. And yet it all makes sense. Shine on, you crazy former football playing idiots with rock and roll aspirations. May you find a county that will tolerate your noisemaking.

I saw Kyle open up for Hank Williams 3 in Denver, CO. I could see why the cops shut him down. It was off the hook!!! I don’t know about it being metal, but it was southern rock/country..and it was killer. You can see what I’m saying right here: http://www.reverbnation.com/kyleturley
