I’ve seen thousands of humorous TV commercials in my time; most intended to be that way, and a very special few which are hilarious despite themselves. I’m going to go out on a limb here and place this ad for Johnson Boat Motors, in the Unintentionally Funny Commercial Hall of Fame. A Top Ten choice, indeed. Looks like it was produced in, I don’t know, the early 1980s? Yes, a time when men were men, and were confident in their Johnsons.

Whenever this was made, I’m pretty sure that ‘Johnson’ meant the same then that it does now. Little did the guys on Mad Men realize that this is what TV advertising would come to just a few short years later.
