'I am a Brock, I am an island'

brock-lesnar.jpgJust so you know, I heard from a reliable source that Brock Lesnar is indeed a HUGE Simon & Garfunkel fan, so the above headline is most assuredly apropos.
Alright, maybe the behemoth Brock isn’t really a fan of singer-songwriter duos who made their hay in the 1970s, but his comeback from a long battle with Diverticulitis is now complete as he remains the UFC heavyweight champion after forcing opponent Shane Carwin to tap out in the second round courtesy of an arm triangle choke hold. This was after Lesnar withstood a barrage of punches thrown by his challenger in the first round. Carwin came out aggressive from the onset, brutally pummeling Lesnar, raining vicious blow upon vicious blow that the champion somehow managed to absorb.

A bloodied Lesnar chose to forgo his usual post-fight antics and praised his opponent and appeared humbled by the victory (via an AP report on NBC Sports):

“From that fight to this one feels like 10 years,” Lesnar said. “It’s been a grueling road. To come back from all that, and to be here and to win, words just cannot describe it. I really feel like I’m in a dream.

“I knew he was getting tired,” Lesnar said. “Each shot was less dramatic than the other. … I stand before you a humble champion, and I’m still the toughest (guy) around, baby.
“The thought that crossed my mind when I was under there was that this isn’t how it’s going to end,” Lesnar said before pointing at his heavyweight title belt. “I’ve been through a lot, but I wasn’t going home without this thing, that’s for sure.”

I am certainly not a great UFC mind, so I’ll leave the hardcore analysis to those better qualified to do so, but the fact alone that someone like me who doesn’t follow the sport one bit felt compelled to go online and find out how the fight went indicates that Brock Lensar is the best thing ever to happen to UFC and Dana White. If this sport is to gain even more popularity and establish a foothold in America’s sports landscape, it will likely be due to the continued emergence of Brock Lesnar.
Maybe next time Brock fights, I might even pay to watch it. Maybe.

Shane Carwin should have knocked out Lesnar… Lesnar in my eyes was lucky to win!!! He was very humble afterwards though and gained my respect… Watch the fight here: http://www.lionsdenu.com/lesnar-vs-carwin-fight-video/

Should have??? Brock won. He took everything Carwin had and then he took him down and submitted him. Carwin tapped out, he quit, he lost.
