Pacquiao camp gives Mayweather two-week deadline

Jul 1, 2010, 11:00 AM EST

Hey, we have half of a fight! But watching Manny Pacquiao shadow box does not make for a good pay-per-view event, so now it just remains to get Floyd Mayweather to show up. Reports are that Pacquiao has reached an agreement in principle to fight Mayweather for the WBO welterweight title, agreeing to pretty much all the conditions that had held up the fight last year. They include an agreement to random drug testing and a tentative agreement on a 50-50 split of the purse, according to BoxingScene.com’s Rick Reeno.

Now it’s up to Mayweather, says Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. According to the veteran promoter, Mayweather has until mid-July to accept the proposal. If Mayweather fails to accept the deal by mid-July, Arum and Pacquiao will look for a November replacement. Top Rank fighters Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto are the frontrunners to replace Mayweather if the deal falls through.

“We’re waiting on Floyd. Floyd has to decide whether he’s going to fight this year or next year or not at all,” Arum said. “It’s up to him, man. He isn’t up to any obligation. We want a fight this year, and if he doesn’t take the fight this year, then we’ll find somebody else.”

It was an Out of Bounds commenter who noted on our previous Pacquiao-Mayweather post: “Come on, while we’re young!” Yep, these negotiations are veering dangerously near the borders of Brett Favre Procrastinationville.
Anyway, if Mayweather continues to hedge, I happen to know that Jose Canseco is available.

Hehehe, you said it brother. A p**** is a p**** however you look at it. He will keep finding excuses no matter what. See people don’t realized the heavier you are the slower you get. It don’t take a genius to figure that out. Does the NFL have defensive linemen and offensive linemen run the ball like the running back? That’s why Gayweather will prance around the ring because one thing he won’t have is speed.

Pinay69′s statements are spot on – close to bulls eye on a target. Pinoys are very superstitious albeit to their own good sometimes. But, that the way they are whether they’re in Pinas, the USA,here in Downunder or anywhere. They’d make a u-turn if a black cat cross their path while walking. Would postpone getting out of the door if he/she sneezed only once. Would’nt agree to put #13 as their house number. What’s this got to do with boxing? Better believe it, THERE WILL BE NO FIGHT ON NOVEMBER 13! But, if by extreme necessity and push to the limit, Manny will go to church, pray hard, make a confession at the box, ask a priest to cancel/reverse the kulam(bodoo) from him to Floyd. 13 will be Lucky 13 for him and bad luck for the Mayweathers. Round 1 will be 1 year with 2 years probation against uncle Roger, Round 2 Floyd Mayweather, Jr.(41-1-0).Round 3, A-Meth,Sr. might learn to speak respectable language. Howzat for prediction, eh?

I am a fan of Floyd but what if this negotiations falls through again (like the first time early this year), do you think Floyd would get the same PPV subscription if he fights another fighter other than Pacquiao later on?

You know whats funny your right theirs also no possible way that anything as been publically said also because if they was to the talks would collapse due to a gagging order, so having said that it would be Arum and the Pacman camps fault for the fight not happening
